| After reading everyone's thoughts on this it is obvious that we need the input from someone who has called the cops' bluff and actually gone to the police station. For what it is worth I have been nailed various times in Santo Domingo by traffic cops who promply hop in my car and instruct me towards the courthouse while they inform me of the huge fine and jail term I will get for whatever they claimed I did. I always cut a deal within a few blocks, pay the assholes, and go on my way.
