Strangelove- Don't let anyone second guess how you handled the situation. You followed one of the most basic rules of common sense....."an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." I think you realize you were able to get back over the border to the privacy of your own home and consider yourself lucky. Just think....instead you could have been spending who knows how much time in a crummy, dirty, over crowded jail in TJ with a bunch of TJ lowlifes trading stories with guys with names like Pablo, Juan, Jose.....wishing you would have paid the $40. There is no question I would have paid any fine to stay out of a TJ jail..... even I was right. From what I understand in Mexico you are "guilty until proven innocent," and I think most would agree that $40 bucks is a small price to avoid playing Russian Rolette.
