On a lark, I was going through the archive and ran across your question to me.

"Since you have been acting as an experienced figure of Mexican cops and laws, let me ask you a question that nobody here seems to know the answer for sure.
Is prostitution legal, illegal, not legal, not illegal, or simply tolerated by laws covering inside and outside ZN?"

First off, I have never acted like an expert on mexican law. I am not. I am not a lawyer, mexican or otherwise. What i do possess is some understanding of mexican culture, and because of that and my experiences in mexico i believe i have some understanding of dealing with mexican cops. At least the way i have always dealt with them has been successful for me.

As for your question, as i understand it prostitution is not legal in mexico, but it is tolerated in specified areas, or when some official has been paid to ignore it. However, if you want the real answer, you need to ask a mexican lawyer, not me.

As for your earlier question to me, yes i do recommend paying when you have committed the crime, but i incorrectly assumed people understood that that also implied that you are caught redhanded. From what you described, you were not caught redhanded. The cops had no proof whatsoever of any wrong doing. Did they see you fucking a puta? Did they see money exchange hands? Do they know that you did anything more than go read a couple of verses from the bible with the chica? I am not going to admonish you any further or get into a flamefest over this. I already stated what i thought of your actions. What you do is your business and your call, but if you post about it here, then i am allowed to have an opinion no?

As for you other question about 'what is my point'? I already made it in my original post. The reason the cops put the bite on gringos is twofold. 1) Because they could use the money and they are corrupt bastards. 2) Because of guys like you are willing to pay it. Those are the facts, plain and simple. If you don't like it, sorry, i can't help it.

Please pardon me for not being able to give you a definitive answer to the legal status of prostitution. All i can give you is my understanding, but because i am not a lawyer, or studied mexican law in detail, i am not an authority on the subject and would not want to mislead someone in a way that could potentially be harmful to them. By the way, it is highly unlikely that you will get the answer on this board. Go talk to a TJ lawyer if you really want the answer.
