Krico,

I'm having some difficulty with your analogy of this board being a 'nation'. Further, I didn't wittiness a 'mass migration' of membership from RS to this board until NC Snake closed both the boards on his site. Prior to that closing, the population here was much smaller.

IMHO the board that we enjoy here is much more analogous to a group for 'friends' that meets at a club, or bar. In our case, the owner of the club/bar, our host, is TJ Hombre. For the most part, based on what he has told us in his postings, he really has no intention of controlling the discussions that take place in his club/bar. There are some limits of conduct to which TJH expects us all to abide, and he's been clear about communicating these expectations to us, as well as alerting us to the fact that he is developing a 'code of conduct' that will be published soon.

In that spirit, it is obvious that TJ Hombre expects the membership of this club, this community, to be civil and courteous to one another in our interactions. To me, that means not questioning member's motivation for posting, EXCEPT when there is explicit example of an agenda being posted. (we've seen examples of this, and TJH has responded to them with clarification of his position on the subject) It means respecting the information given, and the person posting that information. This is true even when you may not agree with the ideals submitted in the posting.

If you don't agree, feel free to say so. But, let's not make a habit of verbally assaulting posters with whom we disagree. And, of equal import, let's not try to assign an agenda to the postings of someone, when the agenda is no more than a supposition on the part of a respondent. Rather, take postings at face value, and in the spirit to which they are offered. If someone posts that such & such a site has great info, we can pretty much glean that there is intent to get people to go to that site. TJ Hombre has asked us not to do this, without his prior approval. (and yes, I mistakenly broke this 'rule' last night on the discus board with I posted a TJ restaurant site as a reference to an eatery that I recommended. My apologies to TJH) However, if someone posts info, and opinions, about a trip or conduct on a trip, why do some members of this community feel it appropriate to attack the post, and imply that there is some hidden agenda on the part of the poster?

Were we all to come to this board in the spirit having fun and sharing info with one another to help maximize the collective enjoyment of this community, I feel, that we'd all be a lot happier. I, also, think that the community will grow more quickly both in knowledge and expertise.
