I believe the French took over Mexico as a way to enforce repayment of loans that they had given to the Mexican government. I guess Mexico was indebted to England and Spain were owed dough, too...but decided to "forgive" those debts. France pressed their case by taking over the country...

Isn't this the same war that the Ninos Heroes were involved in (for whom we get the street names like Ninos Heroes in TJ)...the 6 or 7 cadets that defended some citadel in D.F.? of maybe that was in Puebla...
