KRICO, my memory is terrible but both contemporary museums share one website with dates on it. Gelman was a producer of Russian decent who moved to Mexico City and became quite rich by making the Cantinflas comedies. I probably should not have said he made Cantinflas because in truth I think Cantinfas made him. Anyway his wife was a Czech bombshell who liked to have her portrait painted by Kahlo, Rivera, and Siquieros among others. Eventually they amassed one of the most impressive collections of 20th century Mexican art around. I think Rivera was an amazing muralist (but he would be the first to tell you: don't put Lenin in a mural or Nelson Rockefeller might just fire your ass and paint the wall white again.) His wife (who spent her whole career in his shadow), created paintings that are way more powerful to me. While he was out whoring around she was confined to a hospital bed and basically her world existed in her paintings. The Adelita portrait rules. Remember the thread it spawned when they moved it? People were bummed. About 15 years ago Rio Rita had mounted on a post a framed caricature of a cockroach dancing in a sombrero that was signed, Walt Disney 194_. (Don't remember the exact date but it was in the forties I think) It was a dance place for high school kids at the time. I wanted to steal it that drawing. One more thing, talk about art... KRICO your words have for a long time painted a vivid picture of your zona adventures. Thanks for all your posts.
