This happened to me during the JRSSG meltdown two years ago. The mIRC IRC client that many of you have downloaded for free (I think Curious even posted intructions) is susceptible to allowing attackers to infiltrate your PC, and send files (including evil stuff) to any addresses it finds (as in anyone in the chat room at the time). At least the freeware version was then.

Since this was a mIRC related exposure, I tried the Microsoft chat client. I must have downloaded it for free because I do not pay for software like that.

If there is interest I will track down the MS Chat download, and the (old) mIRC exposures.

One other very cool thing about MS Chat is it has an option to display the conversation as an interactive cartoon script. It can be pretty funny the faces that end up on people. Sometimes they fit very well.
