I actually went to San Ysidro today to change currency. I saw the RP place, but that street is so interesting for the uninitiated, I decided to go for a stroll. All sorts of neat stuff and interesting people. Anyway, if you go past RP towards the border, on the right side of SY Blvd. and at the corner of Border Village Drive, you will see Popular Cash Express, which gave me 9.57 pesos per dollar today, no commission. To sell them back they give you 9.60. With this small a differential, you need not fear buying too many pesos and getting gouged on the return. Could this mean for every $100 they run through their shop, they are making a mere 3 pesos? Talk about a competitive business. For the rest of you, these places are only a short walk from the border crossing up E. San Ysidro Blvd.
