Well, whatever your family does, I know that the tradition I described is practiced in Mexico City, for I was there to witness it. What part of Mexico does your family live in? Many American traditions are being adopted by some Mexicans, but to my knowledge, the dominant Mexican tradition is giving gifts to the kids on Dia de los Reyes Magos.
