Thank you for confirming my theory. These chicas DO NOT HAVE a high level of education. So, even if there was emphasis on learning English in Mexican schools, it would have limited effect on las chicas. This would be ESPECIALLY true if the emphasis on learning English were to be focused in Baja. Most of las chicas are not from Baja. And, let's face it, learning English in Sinaloa or Puebla has about as much practical aplication as learning Trig. has to las chicas. Once a standard of education is established across Mexico, I can see that teaching English would make a lot of sense. I can see Fox promoting this as part of his reforms, but we're a few years away from this. I do agree with you that Spanish should be required in US schools. Further, I beleive that bi-lingual education should begin much earlier than it currently does in US schools. Waiting until Jr. High, or High School makes learning another language much more difficult. Most other countries start in primary school, and have great success.
