Almost impossible to avoid if one goes to TJ regularly...And it does screw up a trip ( so do MX elections - with the bars closed and all). For those "food poisoning" episodes, they can take up to a month to recover from, but the worst part is usually over in a couple of days...Even though the acute affects are over in maybe 8 to 12 hours, the lingering queasiness is around for 48 hours...with "unsual gut activity" hangin' round for up to 30 days... I've tried MSM (organic sulphur), as a way of purging the critters, but it' still a rocky road... Oddly enough, I've never gotten sick from eating at the taco stands outside AB, or by CC, or at the restaurant next to AB (Monte Carlo) or at the "loncheria" across from CC and next to the little grocery store...and these would be the places one would assume one would run a high risk of intestinal upset. Maybe ya have to get sick at least once in order to establish a new intestinal flora...and then you may be somewhat immune. I mean Mexicans eat that stuff all the time...and I've only gotten violently ill that one time... A lot of it has to do with the way the food is handled. A woman died recently from food poisoning after dining at a MX restaurant in northern California, SF Bay Area... something about cooking temperatures... And I've never gotten sick eating at Carl's Jr. on about 4th and Rev, next to the Hotel Caesar... KRICO
