Can you think of a more nihilistic hobby than mongering???" Mongering is certainly at the top of my list of nihilistic hobbies! I suppose that nihilism is not more widely subscribed too because of the opiate effect religion has on the masses (to borrow an analogy from Karl Marx). The belief that you will be rewarded by some higher power after this life is over, and that the higher power will punish those who have fucked our world up, takes the sting out of the daily indignities and unpleasantness most of us suffer. Besides, if you grow up with the idea of ultimate justice in the universe, it can be hard to accept that there is no justice, other than that which we make. Once you have been led to believe that your life is meaningful, it can be traumatic to face the truth that, in the grand scheme of things, your life means nothing. So, that truth often goes unfaced. It also seems that many people believe that life would not be worth living if it had no ultimate purpose. I have found the exact opposite to be the case - once the weight of some imaginary higher purpose has been lifted from your shoulders, the doors which open are mindblowing. Indeed, when I look at the faithful mindless sheep I am forced to deal with on a daily basis, I wonder how they can even find the motivation to drag their sorry asses out of bed in the morning!
