The other side of the coin was that one of the intents of thr French invasion of Mexico during the Civil War was to use Mexico as a staging point for re-supply of the Confederacy, the hope was that, during the early stages of the Civil War, that large amounts of industrial supplies and foodstuffs would allow the South to win the war.

The plan may have worked, but the Mexicans were able to stave off the invasion long enough (at the battle of Puebla) to thwart the French plans. By the time that France consolidated its hold on Mexico, the supply lines from Texas to the rest of the South were cut.
