A few random comments on the Real del Rio: I too became well known here. For a long time I was there every week for at least one or two nights. I love the bar. The bartender is not bad, either. :) My chica had many a long conversation with her, some about me, I am sure. Many a night my chica and I met there, sat and drank for a few hours, and my bar bill was still only a few dollars. Compared to $8 for chica drinks at CC it's a real bargin, plus you can actually hear each other. There are many places to eat nearby, but Cien Aņos is next door. This is one of the finer places to eat in TJ. Try the roast duck. Last time I was there it was the best duck I have ever eaten. As far as it being a "middle-class" hotel. You should be aware of two things. There are often Federal cops in the bar. Some of them work for some of the people staying there. The hotel was built, so I have been told, but someone in the drug business who wanted a place to stay. There is a private penthouse on the top (it actually has six floors, although only 5 are open to the public). I have been in the elevator with three men - one dressed VERY well, and the other two with Uzis under their coats. If there is a row of big black Mercedes in the garage, then you know the "company" is in the house.
