The Real del Rio junior suites were still $175 as recently as last October. Haven't been there since. As an aside, they were having a problem running out of hot water. I am a semi-regular at this hotel and the staff treats me pretty well. Dropped my credit card walking to the elevator once. The bellhop found it and brought it to my room. I was so shocked I forgot to tip the poor guy, until the next day. Anybody know the story on the bartender with the excellent chi-chis ? I would not plan on bringing a parade of girls through here. This is a middle-class Mexican hotel. For a special night with fav though it's hard to beat. The suites are at the end of the middle pasillo on the 5th floor. The one on the right is a little less beat up. You can open the windows all around the rooms, kick back with fav, and on the right night watch the moon come up over the TJ hills and residential lights. As Curious said it is quiet back here and the view I just described is really nice. For an extra touch, I occasionally bring floating candles and dishes for them to put around the jacuzzi. Not bad. For a nearby restaurant, El Zaguan on Ave. Paseo de Heroes is well worth checking out, although I thought it was off a bit last fall after the manager left. Still good though. I checked out the Leon once, just to see what was what with the jacuzzi rooms. It's a long way off Real del Rio IMNSHO.
