My experience with three years of the 405 is that the section between the 10 and the 105 is almost ALWAYS guaranteed to be backed up at one point or another, any day of the week -- even on Sundays. The 405/101 interchange has its problems -- hell, all of the major South Bay/Long Beach interchanges (110, 710, 605/22) seem to slow down somewhat.
