Interesting car theft statistics for 1999/2000:

The top ten most popular cars stolen:

Honda Accord
Toyota Camry
Oldsmobile Cutlass
Chevrolet Pickup
Honda Civic
Toyota Corolla
Jeep Cherokee
Chevrolet Caprice
Ford Taurus
Chevrolet Cavalier

San Diego continues to be one of the more popular places to steal a car, as is Los Angeles. But even then, strange as it may seem, San Ysidro is not high on the list of places in San Diego with the highest rate of car theft.

Otay Mesa has almost 20 times as many car thefts per 1000 population (386 vs. 20.6), but San Ysidro has more assaults per 1000 population (6.1 vs. 3.9). (For comparison, a "good" neighborhood like Scripps Ranch had 0.93 assaults, and 1.65 car thefts per 1000 population).

LA and San Diego are popular places to steal cars, which are then driven over the border and chopped up for parts. I would assume the same happens to many cars stolen in TJ.

I couldn't find any stats on car theft in TJ. Hummm....
