Concerning Sinaloa, there is a convergence of reasons why many of the chicas come from Sinaloa. However, I should note that SGs generally *don't* come from Sinaloa, they generally come from Central or Southern Mexico. Reasons why bar girls come from Sinaloa: 1) Some of the bars recruit in Los Mochis and Culiacan. 2) Sinaloa is very poor, and employment prospects aren't good. A common wage for women is 45 pesos a day. 3) Because of the Sierra Madre blocking access to the east, and the ocean to the west, there are only 2 areas that people from Sinaloa can migrate to - the southern coastal regions, leading to central Mexico, and Sonora/Baja California. Since employment along the southern Pacific area isn't too good, and central Mexico is far away, many move north into and through the Baja. 4) Girls don't want to work in the bars of Los Mochis and Culiacan, because their family members may see them working there. TJ represents a far enough distance from Sinaloa for comfort. 5) Easy transportation. An amazing number of buses run through Sinaloa to TJ. 6) The drug trade. There are already traffic patterns from Sinaloa to TJ, the novios often are moving back and forth from Sinaloa to TJ, the chicas follow.
