A lot of the people I meet downtown are from Sinaloa. Whats up with Sinaloa, do I need to go there to see? Why the influx of migrants from there? Since you've been there yourself, any ideas? Obvioulsy poverty and lack of opportunity are issues, but you find that all over Mexico, especially central and southern Mexico. Do I need to look into the recent history of that state?

Condomless sex with potential novios. Absolutely. Thats when they become like all the other women out there who don't usually use condoms. Romance, trust, ideas about what love entials, I wrote my senior honors thesis on this kind of stuff among college girls. There is a great book about to come out from an anthropologist named Patricia Wheelan. She works with sex workers in San Francisco. She did a great study on their sexual practices with non-customers vs. customers. There is some other stuff written about sex workers in other countries - from the psychological to the social. One of the classics in print is on women (non-sex workers) and "monogamy narratives", where condomless sex is used to maintain self esteem, credibility and status in the community. That was done by an anthropologist by the name of Elisa Sobo.

Anyway, I'd love to be a fly on the wall during that conversation. What do you say when they offer?
