While rummaging through my voluminous library yesterday I came across the 1938 World Almanac which I bought at a garage sale in Redding back in 1983...
I flip to the statistics on Mexico and see that the peso was worth 27 cents US back in '38...or about 4 pesos to the dollar back in the depths of the Great Depression.

The "Nuevo Peso" or "new peso" was introduced in 1993 at something like 3 pesos to the dollar and then within a year it's value collapsed in relation to the buck...but it's interesting to note the 4-to-1 ration some 60 years ago and "new peso" introduced at 3-to-1, and the current 9.5-to-1 ration...

Many of us pay about 500 pesos at the current exchange rate for "club babes"...($50 US) which would have been analagous to paying $125 US back in 1938 (500 pesos divided by 4 pesos-to-the-dollar)...The minimum wage in the late 1930's was 40 cents an hour....Nobody would've been buying pussy at $125 bucks a pop back then...You would've had to have worked about 312 hours to get that dough...(12500 cents divided by 40 cents)

As it stands, hypothetically, one would work about 10 hours today at the minimum wage in order to get a club babe (if your a gringo..)...back then (1938)it would have cost you about $4 US ( assuming that work/fuck ration held)...However, I was buyin' raw poon for between $5 and $2.50 in TJ back in 1966-67 ( TJ whorehouse quality poon was at that price...bar stuff was even less...) and I can't believe that you couldn't get it for way less back in 1938 in TJ ....

Am I phrasing this problem wrong? Am I leaving out a critical factor? If the girls are givin' it out in 2001 A.D. at 50 bucks with a US minimum wage at about 5 bucks an hour and an exchange rate of about 10-to-1...how do I determine the difference in 1938 at a US minimum wage of 40 cents and hour and a peso exchange of 4-to-1?

This info below shows the slowly(?) depreciating value of the peso versus the dollar since 1995 (stats taken from the CIA factbook)
Exchange rates: Mexican pesos (Mex$) per US$1 - 9.4793 (January 2000), 9.5604 (1999), 9.1360 (1998), 7.9185 (1997), 7.5994(1996), 6.4194 (1995)

More research is needed...
