Rick, I don't have an answer for your direct question, but I do have a lot of empathy for the situation. My fav has a similar family situation. What she goes through to give her kids a better shot at life than what she had frequently humbles me for how ungrateful I am for the life I have been handed. I think your amiga is probably overly concerned on this topic. Most well intentioned mothers raising kids without fathers are. I know mine was. At age 13 he has formed a lot of the basis of his character, he just needs to learn how to use it well. As the Calpton song goes. I think that it is important that the young man receive some special attention through regalos from a male figure. Sounds like maybe that ought to be you. I give fav camisetas atleticas, gorras, and odds and ends electronic gimicks. Basically I keep an eye out for something my own sons would like and buy an extra one. Anyway, I think the philosophic book from somewhere afar might be a little too much.
