RoadHawg: Neither Miami nor Tropical are bars that could be considered "Gringo-friendly" in the sense that both AB and CC are...the chicas that populate AB/CC are pros and understand that the Gringos' game is to get upstairs and thus to see is basically to conquer at both of these bars...unless the chica is so incredibly hi-volume that the Gringo never gets a chance to approach her... Not so at Miami/Tropical...the basic job function for these chicas is to drink for fichas and dance the night away with the lonely Mexican ranchhands that generally constitute the clientele...depending on when you go, you will be hard-pressed to find Gringos in either of these bars...Frequently on weeknights and weekday afternoons I have been the lone Gringo in attendance for hours at a time... That said, there is thus no deference paid to the typical Gringo M.O. (read: get upstairs) by either the chicas or the staff...occasionally you will stumble across a chica that will go-up right away, but generally you will have to play the ficha game and spend some time buying drinks, fending off cheese and olive plates (Tropical), dancing, and cajoling your teenage babe into going up... Which can be fun in a way, but also can be expensive... and somewhat disturbing when your little teenage babe starts tweaking and wanders off after a couple-hour investment in drinks and flowers and cigarettes, or becomes so incoherent that she is no longer able to function or talk, or her little trip to the ladies room with her friends stretches into a vacation of sorts and you finally discover about 5am or so that she has decided to go upstairs and "sleep"... Oh, Okay... It is difficult to be sure of anything in Tropical and Miami...at Miami the Manager fancies himself a bit of a loverboy and has a stable of girls he is "taking care of" and if you fall for one of them the situation ratchets-up another notch on the level of difficulty... The best way to navigate these tricky waters, IMHO, is to seek out and befriend a masero that you can trust and consistently go back to him...take an interest in him and his family and tip him for little acts like delivering a written note to your little babe and you will at least have one person looking out for you in these drug dens...plus he will do a pretty good job of producing your little chica when you want her; what happens after that is anyone's guess...
