KRICO,

I would respectfully disagree that nihilism is a form of fatalism. A fatalist believes that all events are predetermined, while a nihilist merely believes that existence is without meaning or purpose.

I have no belief that events are predetermined (the essence of a fatalist), since I don't even believe that anything exists which COULD pre-determine events. I think our lives are essentially the product of a bunch of random occurrences (which can be influenced, to a degree, by conscious or unconscious effort), that we attempt to superimpose meaning onto.

However, even though our future is not predetermined, I don't think that our lives or existence have any meaning apart from the meaning we give to them. In other words, when the shithouse we live in finally goes up in flames, none of this will have mattered.

Thus, I see fatalists as weak and impotent, while nihilists view the future with limitless possibilities (aside from the possibility of inherent meaning).

It was a great conversation, though, and I really regret the fact that I wasn't able to get it on with this chica that night . . . I was already spent, she was just killing a few minutes in the bar before going to the airport for an early morning flight to go home for vacation, and I haven't seen her since . . .

Que sera, sera . . . .

Kendricks
