I also used to religiously sit in the front, to appear more authentic and less tourist. But the fact is, I prefer the back, for all the reasons you say, so now I just sit in the back. to compensate I hang my head over the front seat and chat a little in spanish. But I am moving to the next step which is just sit down, shut up, and hand over the $5 when you exit.
