It won't help money-wise(as you should always negotiate the price BEFORE getting in the cab), but will help you appear more "Mexican" if you sit in the front seat. It is a cultural thing. Over the last few years I've been sitting in the front seat - cause I get a kick out of doing what they didn't expect me to do, and because I sometimes like to practice my Spanish on them. However, 9 times out of 10, it is THEY who want to practice their English. I've started to move back to the back seat, as it is more comfortable, more safe, and I don't really give a shit about improving my Spanish any longer.
