That's an interesting question, that I'll have to follow up on. I do know that if you call a 30-something mexicana "senorita", she will typically blush and giggle! I also believe that
an older woman who never had children would *not* be a senorita, so I'm not sure that child-bearing has anything to do with it (or that it is necessarily the deciding factor).

The mexicans I know often use "morra" for a very young girl, "chava" for a young girl, "muchacha" for a young woman, "senora" for an older woman that they have respect for, "ruka" (sp?) for older women that they don't respect, and "vieja" for women they are not fond of, as in "pinche vieja", regardless of her age. "Mujer" seems to be simply mean "woman", so it's the one I go with when in doubt!

The nuances can mean so much!!!!
