Another topic blown way out of proportion...the dollar tip to the "talacheros" (someone please correct my spelling on that one). Annoying..why should be annoying? They probably get next to nothing from the "house" so it's the only way they make money. I find the cabbies in front of CC more irritating when they scream "taxi" at everyone who walks close to them. If you wanna blow 'em off real quick just say "I tipped the other guy" or "otra hombre ya" or something. If you wanna be funny say something like "don't waste your time with penny stocks" or as Groucho once said "don't bet on the horses". This is also a good time to give 'em shit if there wasn't any/much tp in the room, or the shower head in the bano was vaporware and you had to hose down from an open pipe. I say "no papel no propino!" Usually the other guys standing around start laughing...but then they kinda know me and I'm on a joking level with them, even to the point if I don't feel like giving them anything and just tap my elbow they crack up and we call each other names. Leaving the propina in the room is fine..."propino en cuarto amigo" or some such thing fits the bill. And when you say it if you have something to complain about bring it up and turn it around on them, especially if it's in earshot of the desk guy. Have fun with it!
