I am a beginner at Spanish but I still can communicate. I bring down a Franklin Translator. This is really excellent and you can pick one up at Staples. Because the music is loud I usually can't understand what they are saying so I have them write it down on a napkin. With the Translator, I can look up unknown words. I recommend this approach to other beginners. Bring a pen, a translator, some paper (or use napkins) and a flashlight.
