Sorry, Yoosin, I'll have to miss you. Wondering if anyone will be available a few weeks later for hook-up to take me around on my TJ-virginity tour! I've never been to TJ, but will probably get to San Diego for business in about three weeks. Post here if you're interested in dining, touristy crap, or showing me the sights, sounds, and smells of ... Adelita's.

I'm going to TJ from 7-29 to 8-4. I'm going to drive to the border and walk accross. I don't have a hotel reserved. I do need some time wasting things to do, I was going to try las playas, but got discouraged after reading about the conditions in other posts. I'm going on a shoestring budget except when it comes to las chicas. Any suggestions on sleeping without a hotel?

Get an allnight room at Hotel Coahuila...the Adelita's hotel. You're going to have to pay $11 each time you get a chica anyway, so pay the $22 and keep it for the whole night. Or go next door to Cascada's and get one for $28.

Glad to see others from Vegas enjoying the zona.Adelito makes a good suggestion on the hotels and hotel coahulia will let you chose from Adelita girls from before noon till 6 a.m. and will give you a place to nap and shower up whenever you feel like it for not much more than what you would have to pay for the room for two sessions.A room for allnight shouldn't be hard to get until the weekend gets there.thats a lot of time to be in TJ without a safe place to sleep,ect.I'm itching for another trip but will have to hold off due to just getting back from eight days in Veracruz.I usually hit TJ from sunday thru wednesday.I hope you have a great trip.

Taxibob, How was Vera Cruz? Did you have a good trip? I'd really like to hear about it if you're willing. My amiga is still asking me to take her. We just talked about it night before last. She wants to go in 3 weeks, but I don't think I can quite yet. What hotel did you stay at and how much did it cost? Didn't you say before you were going to fly to DF then a bus the rest of the way. Last night I was looking up fares. Mucho dinero to fly right to VC. Not too bad to DF, but rental cars were expensive. I really want to drive from DF if its practical...it looks like its only about 250 miles, and driving through southern Mexico with my amiga sounds like a great time...probably see some cool stuff.

That sounds like a good idea, but now, with further thought, my biggest concern is parking. I'm definatly against driving accross the border. I'll probally end up getting a hotel north of the border so I don't have to worry about all the stuff I'll be bringing. God the anxiety is killing me.

Bud I have only stayed north of the border one night in the dump near the trolley stop at the border that offers parking.It wasn't quality accomadations.Some like the motel 6 and the travelodge but there have been reports of misuse of your credit card numbers after using your credit cards at that Travelodge so be careful if your gonna credit card your room.
parking at the border will add to your costs when staying several days.At border station even if you arrive late at night if you keep your car there after 10 a.m. they will charge you for another day which i feel is a rippoff.

Any of you local guys have suggestions for reasonably safe free parking semi close to the border for us out of towners who go to TJ for several days at a time and stay south for the whole visit.Is that Wallmart open 24 hours with security zooming around the lot like the ones in Vegas or would they tow a car that has been there 5 or 6 days.Any suggestions?

The former 5 Star, which I suppose is now called World Duty or some such thing is still only 7 bucks for a true 24 hours. Why not stick with that? 5-6 days, 35-42 bucks...not that bad.

Of course the other option is stay at a hotel like La Villa Zaragosa and parking is free.

Driving in and out of TJ and Zona Norte is so easy if you go at the right time. Don't cross back north during rush hour(morning or evening). There is a new parking lot 1/2 block from Adelita's that only cost $3 day during the week and $5 on weekend. Hotel Cascadas is right there and only $28 per night. No cab fares, no crossing the border over and over again if you stay several nights. You can save alot of money this way. If you're careful, it's not that risky. I've done it at least once and more often twice every week for the last 2 years. The only problem I ever had was 4 times in a row a few months back I got pulled over by cops and had to pay a bit of cash to them(like $20-$30), but I was guilty everytime, so I deserved it. I know alot of people disagree, but I drive ALOT in TJ and it's just not as big a deal as some try to portray it. In my last job I had a brand spanking new company Suburban. I drove it in at least 30 times...parked on the street on Coahuila, paid a dude $3 and never had an issue. Now I park my motorcycle right out front, don't even pay anybody to watch it, and once I left a big duffel bag bunggeed to it...no problem. One thing you have to be mindful of is that cars in front of you will make turns from 3 lanes over.

Is the new parking lot you're talking about the former Molino Roja across the street from Chicago Club? I've parked there a few times and have had good luck. I try to get there early so I can park against the wall and not have to leave my key, though I have no reason to suspect the guys that work there of anything...just feels safer. I've taken chance and driven in more often in the last few months and have to admit it's a lot easier.

Good seeing you again a couple weeks ago out front of AB. The new parking lot I am talking about is on the corner of Coahuila and Ninos Heroes. There used to be buildings there, but I never noticed what they were. The lot is on the northwest corner, a little below street level...very safe. They've never asked me to leave them a key and the guys that work there seem pretty friendly.
Hey when you drive out do you just go East on Coahuila til it ends, then jog to the left about 60 feet and turn right onto the road that goes along the river? Getting back to the border that way is so easy. I actually feel safer driving back to the border than I do coming into TJ. I never see TJ cops on that route.

OK, I know the garage you're talking about, the below street level description made it a lot clearer. Maybe I'll give it a shot next time, especially if the MR lot is full.

Since I usually park at the MR the only direction I can go is left on Const, I cut the very next left, then the left to Ninos Heroes and another left on Juarez/2nd to the freeway. I notice once I get to la linea I'm not in the lanes way to the right, but more to the middle. No particular reason why, but if I wanted to get to that other freeway how would I do that?

The lanes you are talking about are the same ones I always take...the ones to the left. There are 2 ways that I know of to get to the other side. One is keep going the way you go, but right before the souvenir stands on the right there is a fork in the road. You are taking the main road to the left...to the right is the diamond lane, which goes on the other side...it's never worked out any better for me. The other way is if you are on the freeway(autopista) coming north from Zona Rio or other areas to the south...you automatically end up on that side. I would suggest to keep going the way you are going. Never try to cross the border after about 4:30am on a weekday...the traffic SUCKS!!!

Well I'm all packed to leave for the zona in the morning for the week. I guess I'll park at World and after a quick SG, I'll check out the hotels on the US side. I plan on between 21 and 28 sessions. I'll probally be at AB for the most part, I'm 36, fit, short brown hair, I usually wear shorts and a t-shirt, and most the time have my shades on top my head. If you see me, say hello. Besides the number of sessions I have do have more goals to achieve this trip. Do a MP everyday, Tanya at AB, 2 chicas, alnighter, and try for a nonworking girl. Like I said, shoestring budget except for las chicas!

Damn, dude, sounds like you've got big plans!!! Please do use the internet cafe. The easiest one to find that I know of is just off the corner of 8th and Revolucion across from Sanborns. I highly doubt you'll catch too much flak from any of the chicas in the span of a week if you're not someone they see in the Zona all the time unless you post
