Arrive Bangkok late on July 19, fly out on the 26th. Am having a GREAT time here, but am stoked to see the OTHER place too. I'm sure there's damn good reason why many like it better than the PI.

How much did you end up paying for your ticket? What Airline? I think you will like Pattaya much better for your budget...comprable to the PI. Bangkok can get expensive real quick if you go to the soapies, Eden Club and Nana Plaza.

Wil, if you are planning on taking the train from Singapore to KL, please take my advice and bring your own food. And lots of it. Malaysian Railways sucks, to put it mildly, in this department. Also, Malaysian buses DO NOT have bathrooms on board, so if you're downing the fluids or have a small bladder, think seriously about trains. Of course, maybe you knew this stuff already.

I think Rayong is about 50 KM from Pattaya, making it closer than Bangkok. Shouldn't be hard to get a cab to do the trip.

wilrobasy, are you travelling by bus, then? It's faster than the train and you have a bit more flexibility as there's so many busses out of Singapore. You may want to stop in Melaka for a half day for a bit of sight seeing. It's now a sleeply little town, but was once the seat of the Malay kingdom and fought over by the Dutch and everyone else.

You know about KL, right?

To go to Hat Yai by bus, you can get a night bus. It leave around 10PM, but buy your ticket IN ADVANCE! They sell out all the time. The bus arrives in Hat Yai around 7 or 8am. Grab a cab out to Songkla and check out the fishing village there. It's really quite nice. Then, back in town you can go to the Pink hotel complex. Get yourself a soapy.
