sweet -

As Jews say on Passover, why should this night be different than any other night (other than the ticket part)?

See you there.

Sweetmesquite,
Your trips to Rio aren't as newsworthy as your infrequent trips to the US . Have fun, you dog!

Bigvern - See you in Rio buddy. Aug 22/Sep 1. See you at the "Office". - Hemp

By Gringasnomas on Saturday, August 16, 2003 - 07:43 pm:  Edit

I might be there in early September. Where is this office you guys are talking about? I'd like to meet some of you guys.

By Sterling on Sunday, August 17, 2003 - 02:23 pm:  Edit

The "office" is Cafe Alcazar. It's the mid-day monger meeting venue, prior to heading off on various Terma runs or VIP's festas. At night, the terrace in front of Help becomes the place to meet.

By Gringasnomas on Sunday, August 17, 2003 - 08:31 pm:  Edit

Well I'll try to make it to the Cafe Alcazar during my visit. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys.

I'll be in Rio for the first time around the 25-26th. Unfortunately, I'm travelling a lot outside of the city so I'll only be there one or two nights. But I should be back for another night around the 30th-31st. I would love to meet up with another monger while there. It's best to reach me at tanikir@hotmail.com

I'll be in Rio for the seventh time for three weeks beginning Thanksgiving. I stay in a private beachfront apartment (you can too), and know at least some of the ropes. It's fun to hang out with others and compare notes--contact me at demented12@hotmail.com if you want to get together there.

Hello All :

Experienced monger landing in Rio for the first time the morning of OCT 9th from NY. Question for the Rio vets : What's your favorite Por Kilo place to eat in the Copa area ? I'm sure food's the first thing I'll need after I land. I'd also like to see if there are a few guys that are up for a VM trip sometime over the next 8 days. If anyone wants to meet up for a beer, I'll be the guy standing in front of the Debret with no pants on, waiting for a taxi to 4x4.

Muito Obrigado. Will check back in a few days for por kilo suggestions...Food is important !!

By Sf4dfish on Monday, September 29, 2003 - 01:55 pm:  Edit

Dano, if you like to eat at "all you can eat buffets", and are a big meat eater? The best bang for your Reais is at a rodizio restaurant called Monchique in Copa.

Why pay per kilo, when you can inhale all you want for less than 13 Reais a sitting, not including drinks and deserts!

Try it, you'll like it! sf4dfish

By Dano6570 on Monday, September 29, 2003 - 05:13 pm:  Edit

Fish :

Thanks. It's not so much I'm a big eater, but traveling alone makes it suck having to get a table and all when your alone. I know I may find a nice garota, but I like to be able to find a lunch counter or something more informal (a la "Foodland, Soi 5" in Bangkok. The lunch place there kept me fed real well, and I managed to meet some interesting people as well as some fellow mongers.) Anyways...that's sort of along the idea I had in mind. Oct 9th can't come fast enough....

By Sweetmesquite on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 - 08:39 am:  Edit

good kilo place is siguera grill on siguera compos near atlantica .

By Dano6570 on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 - 05:21 pm:  Edit

SM :

Thanks for the suggestion with the address and everything. After checking into the Debret, I'll take a walk that way to strech my legs and feed my face after a long flight.

Thanks !

A few days of debauchery in Rio starting Oct 1. I dont intend to have a sober minute. I think a little of everything is in order: termas, massage, escort, help, terrazo, maybe even lido.

By Calif_thaied on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 - 10:41 pm:  Edit

Okay you freaking Cherries, I've gone only seven, yes, SEVEN days and a "wake-up" until Rio. I'll be there from from Oct 7 to the 18. Yes, you read that right, TWELVE days there. And to think, Mom was a little disappointed when I started working for the Government. She didn't know about those long vacations I can spend in Rio Termas. And if you're not totally pissed at me already, did I mention ALL of December in Thailand?

By Sweetmesquite on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 - 11:34 pm:  Edit

dano- as of last trip in august -debret was not guest friendly

By Sandman on Wednesday, October 01, 2003 - 07:53 am:  Edit

Dano,

I like the Kice Sucos at the corner of NS Copocabana and Miguel Lemus (I think). Great place for a quick bite, opens early, great fresh juices, inexpensive and probably the best chicken salad sandwich I have ever tasted. The scenery that walks by ain't bad either!

Of course, up the street towards Ipanema is the famour Por Cao (spelling?) Chruascarria. bring your appetite.

By Sf4dfish on Wednesday, October 01, 2003 - 05:26 pm:  Edit

Dano, re-read the Debret posts!

I repeat, re-read the Debret posts:-(

By Dano6570 on Wednesday, October 01, 2003 - 06:34 pm:  Edit

Guys :

Thanks for all the advice.
Sandman : I think I might have used a few of your thoughts to guide me through Bangkok, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, I have read about the state of the Debret as of late. That's OK though, I'm more of a Termas type myself. If I'm really achin', I can hit a love motel. Have to be flexable (and preferably, so does she.)

I will be in Rio from 27 october till ...

By Scotch on Monday, October 06, 2003 - 08:15 am:  Edit

Well I guess it was time to see what the hell everyone was always referring to on this site. Just call me Scotch. Fluent portuguese speaker and 4 time monger (so far) to Rio. I was planning my next trip in January, but a friend taking some time off work insisted I take him down in November, so what was I to say. I will be there Nov. 12 to Dec. 10. Sweet Mesquite, hoping to see you there and others. Only handles I know are yours and Bwana's. Last trip was in May where a fine time was had by all. Tested out some of the "obscure termas", and was not dissapointed. Lot's more bang for the buck, but be choosy, and take your time before deciding which one you want. I will be at the "office" Nov. 13th. Looking forward to seeing many of you there. If anyone has a list of names and addresses of mid-range downtown termas, I am interested in getting it. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

By Sandman on Tuesday, October 07, 2003 - 03:13 am:  Edit

Scotch (like your handle); I'll be arriving on Dec. 10th and hope to see you at the office before you leave. I'll be checking out some of the more obscure Termas as well. Hope to compare notes and follow your trail.

By Bundog on Wednesday, October 08, 2003 - 10:46 am:  Edit

I will be in Rio from November 3rd till December 1st. This will be my 2nd trip to Rio. I came with Scotch last May. Had a fantastic time. Besides the garotas I’ll always remember singing the theme song to Gilligans Island in front of Help at the top of our lungs in three part harmony (or disharmony ). I believe Bluestraveler may have a copy of the new and improved edition of that theme song. Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. I’ll check in at the office Nov 3rd.

By Cortogringo on Wednesday, October 08, 2003 - 02:08 pm:  Edit

Oi Scotch. Otra Scotch aqui. I have planned my trips around hooking up with you in January and you won't be there. Looks like I will be departing a day or two before you get into town. At least I can count on Sweetmesquite being there.

By Scotch on Wednesday, October 08, 2003 - 04:08 pm:  Edit

Corto,

Damn, you are from CA, right? Sorry about the mix up but I promised this buddy I would show him
the ropes in Nov. He has a 2 month leave from his
job, I don't think he will come back as soon as he
thinks he will. When did I tell you I was going in Jan?

By Cortogringo on Wednesday, October 08, 2003 - 04:56 pm:  Edit

Yep, I am Scotch from CA and you are Scotch from UT. Verdade? We talked back last May at Terraco.

By Scotch on Wednesday, October 08, 2003 - 05:53 pm:  Edit

Yes, since you were a veteran before I, you will be known as Scotch verdadeiro, and I will be Scotch falso. Ta' Bom?

By Cortogringo on Wednesday, October 08, 2003 - 10:24 pm:  Edit

Too many letters!!! How about I am Scotch velho and you would then be Scotch joven. Ta'Bom?

By Scotch on Thursday, October 09, 2003 - 10:59 am:  Edit

Ya, except I think I am mais velho do que voce. Maybe I will be back in January, who the f*** knows. Got a screaming deal on an apt. since we are renting it for a month. Mums the word on it though I was sworn to secrecy. Why don't we all pitch in and buy a place? We could just name the Monger Palace...by the way never forget to ask...voce toma no cu?

By Dano6570 on Saturday, October 11, 2003 - 10:57 am:  Edit

Hi all :

Here I am typing a note on a horribly rainy Saturday afternoon in Rio. Have been to L'uomo, Monte Carlo, the Terrace, don't think I have run into a fellow monger yet. This must be the extra low season. Staying at the Debret, guest isn't an issue as long as it's late. Trying to minimize the walk of shame effect for them I suppose. Will check board tomorrow to see if anyone's up for a beer.

Ate logo.
Ciao.

By Hunterman on Monday, October 13, 2003 - 01:01 am:  Edit

I will be arriving in Copa on Thanksgiving (how appropriate), staying for a month. I'm looking for other mongers to hook up with, it sounds like you guys are having too much fun--more than I've had on previous trips, in some cases.

Hello all! I will be arriving in Rio for the first time on Nov. 3, 2003. Is there a vet that can show me the ins and outs? I'm kind out on a limb, but I can adapt really fast. You can contact me one this email system or my normal email: ktemnor@hotmail.com
