Cato?
Anything or ANYONE you want me to do while I a in Rio and you are in Tel Aviv?
btw...I am certain that the scene in Tel Aviv is far superior to rio... (retreats quickly)
By Roadglide on Saturday, January 03, 2004 - 06:03 pm: Edit |
Catocony; I've been to Tel Aviv last time in 93, the press makes it look a lot worse than it really is. On the p4p side there are a lot of Russian imports that are working the MPs. In Jerusalem your best bet is to get a local newspaper.

Kev, ladies-Just go to Alcazar everyday around 11:00AM. You'll run into the crowds at the "office"
By Ladies on Thursday, January 08, 2004 - 06:54 am: Edit |
Thanks Sandman - is Alcazar an area of Rio or a particular venue where the "office" is located? Also, I tried to email Don at Riotrips but failed to get through - what is his correct email address, and is it advisable to contact him?
By SF_Hombre on Thursday, January 08, 2004 - 07:30 am: Edit |
You should be able to reach Don at riotrips@hotmail.com From the US his cellphone is 011-55-21-9108-1502 (after noon Rio time or you will be talking to a zombie). Alcazar is a restaurant. Rather than 11:00 a.m. however, I would suggest 1:30 p.m.
Have fun in Rio!

I'm from London, UK. What would you advise as regards cash - take it as UK£ and change on arrival, or change into US$ before travelling and change US$ into local currency on arrival?
By FLhobbyer on Saturday, January 10, 2004 - 06:22 pm: Edit |
Use your ATM card.
No need to change UK£ to US$ even if you insist on using foreing currency.

Anyone know of any good fares or sources there of for Rio or even Salvador the last couple of weeks here in Jan? I just found out I can get away but the fares are xpenseeve and hotel packages all want 14 days in advance! How many other guys am I bidding against on Skyauction? I'm looking from something out of LAX or Houston though I can get to Miami for $233. Thanks"
Bwana dik thanks for all the help you gave me in May. I was the bodysurfer. If I can't get back now, I'll plan for May again with a trip to Cabo Frio for some surfing this time. Can I suggest you include names/words/translations for some of the dishes at your favortite cafes or even for sandwiches as that was a problem
given their large portions and many newbies limited language skills.
By Bwana_dik on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 09:32 am: Edit |
Why1952- Cheap fares get hard to find this late. January is peak season, and the airlines fill their seats pretty early, so the cheap seats were mostly sold awhile ago. You have to check with the airlines' websites to see if they have any last-minute special efares. American was running a good fare out of Miami recently, but only via their website.
Stayawayjoe- Hope to catch you in town.

Bwana, I was able to get a cheap ticket the long way through JFK. What we'll do to get to Brazil! I'll be there 1/23-1/31 but will try to do some traveling. Anyone have any ideas on good places to stay in Salvador or Natal? Anyone tried the Praia do Forte north of Salvador or taken anyone withn them. I'm looking for anyone that wants to see some other spots this trip. Does anyone recognize what hotel the Barbara pics were taken at?
By Why1952 on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 05:33 pm: Edit |
Sorry for so many pesty posts here and I'm feeling sooo guilty that I'll try to post a newbies trip report from last May tonight after work that has some info and opinions that will help others. You oldies might get a laugh about the taping my johnson up with duct tape story and hopefully it will show you why your posts are so helpful and interesting to read. Thanks to Layne for letting me tag along to Centaurus that night. Too pro and to expensive for me, though the best kissing session I've had since high school. Shoot, what was I going to ask?
On, if any oldbie or newbie is interested in the following
during 1/23-1/30 please give me a shout.
a) visiting some different beaches and I can teach you how to bodyboard and know where to rent you equipment ( I could slip an exrtra one in my bag too since I'm dragging it around as usual)
b) 2 or 3 day trip to see the falls and river
c) trip to Salvador, Natal or Praia do Forte
d) sigh--- even a trip back to Buzios(boring but I'll run over to Cabo Frio everyday) or consider Cabo Frio--- gorgeous long white sandy beach like Copa was 20 years ago where you can get away from people and good swimming or surfing--more laid back and less tourists and families
e) above type of trip with sharing costs using is Jose's VW van and services with or without female companionship down the coast or into the mountains-Angra? I believe he's R500 per day plus gas or something in 10 pax VW van???
I've emailed Bobby for costs and such and said trips and have no plans at this point, just coming in flying blind as usual. Yes, I am going to play in Rio, but I want to try some new things and perhaps the Layne technique at Help minus his Portuguese, good looks, large size, and humor.

Why1952,
Hope to see you in town. I'll be found sometimes around Alcazar, often in 4X4, L'uomo and Solarium, and evry morning with my bodyboard at Arpoador if it's breaking.

I'm coming to Rio 2/26 and staying till 3/5, when I'll be heading to Salvador for another 9 days. Why1952, I'd love to hear what you've learned about Salvador when you return, esp any info about lodging, and great music clubs. There is precious little info on Bahia on this site. Anybody else going to be in Rio or Salv at this time?
On the topic of cheap fares to Rio and/or Salvador, Varig currently has an internet special for off season of $462 RT from Mia, or $602 from NY. They allow for one stopover, eg you can fly Mia to Salvador and stopover in Rio for no extra charge. The hassle is you have to email your request, and then within 48 hours they email back either confirmation or the news that your dates are not available. If youre flexible w/ dates, and apply far enough in advance, it could be a great deal.

Why1952,

Why1952,
I recently got back from 6 weeks in Rio, am starting to post my trip log. I may not get much up before you leave, so here's some info. I went to Falls d'Igacu, and highly recommend it. No girls available there for a reasonalble price, though, if you don't mind getting ripped off go to Cristal (but I think you would mind). I booked a tour through Bobby, was happy with it.
I met and befriended Brazil_Specialist, and he was happy to introduce me to many fresh, semi-pro girls at reasonable prices. He likes doing that, only asks for a few bucks reimbursement for his phone expenses in doing it. Money well spent, he's fluent in Portuguese and had a lot of nubile young friends.
I'm 58, and found Viagra and Cialis helped with my excessive sexual appetite. They're available there over the counter, Viagra was more expensive there than at Costco here (I have a Rx). Cialis was just approved here, so I don't know about comparative costs.
And I'll have to put duct tape on my must-have list (rotfwl).

I'm trying to get service providers straight in my mind here and it may help other newbies but I won't mention prices as that along with pics of places seem to be a sore topic in this competitive market. Please correct me and answer me off the board if you have other or private info or comments about said services.
Bobby and Staff at www.blameitonrioe4travel.com
hotels, apartments, travel, free psychiatric services, phones, seems to be able to do anything at last monent if you just show up at his doorstep, and possibly a dic doc for me as SF Hombre has suggested. Be patient, he will get to you and things always seem to work out.
He'll do short term apartments 2 days if available I believe I've read????
The jewelery store across the street and down a little bit (name?) will also exchange money on Sundays and after hours with a decent rate. If you see the guy in there knock and he'll open.
Kenn and Sandra ez-riorentals.com
great reputation for apartments and help but do weekly plus rentals and website has a lot of good info
Jose, Luciano and Claudia rioturist.com
Apartments, tours in and out of town, help with women
and great info on website
Jose seems to have a great rep
Is Luciano the same ( I hope not) as the Luis on posts who needs to be watched on money exchanges or do your own exchanging
Don minus Karl now? riotrips.com
The infamous provider who will do take you by the hand and take you everywhere but you will be with a group that can range from 2 to 12+. He will teach you anything you need to know about the thermas and safely put you in a cab home nightly. I think he'd even tuck you in if necesssary. Don't waste your time trying to converse with him until at least 1:30 or later, because he keeps late hours every night and parties with the best of them.

Has to be the most prolific local poster on the board and seems to give a lot of info for nothing
apartments including nice looking rooms in his own place and help with women seems like he might be better suited for younger guys but I'm interested in meeting him

Any experience with GOL the Brazilian Southwest or TAM just buying tickets in Brasil instead of the expensive $399 airpass that must be bought prior to entry? For 2-4 trips it seems like you'd save a lot.
I'm searching but slim pickings on trips, hotels, things to do, and mongering in other places like the Falls,Salvador, Natal, Lencios, Fortaleza, etc. Any ideas or experiences staying at;
Salvador area
Catussaba, Marazul, Monte Pasocal, Portal dos Lencios or Praia dos Forte(expensive but looks beautiful and is all inclusive)
Iguacu Falls (mongering expensive?? how expensive and quality???)
Tropical das Cataratos
Yacutinga Lodge
Boubon Foz do Iguacu (don't think I got that one right)
Fortaleza

Hi guys - I'm making my first trip to Rio from 13th-26th February. A business contact of mine has booked an apartment for me on Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana 793, Central Copacabana. I understand it is just a 100 metre walk from the beach. Are any of you Rio specialists familiar with the area, and do you have any tips to pass on to an enthusiastic newbie? Originally I was going to get an apartment in Ipanema or Barra da Tijuca, but I wanted to be closer to Rio central. Was this a good idea? The apartment cost me us$600 for the whole period which, considering I enjoy my independence and carnival will be raging during the time I'm there, I think I got a pretty good deal. But let me know. Also, how does a newbie make contact with Brazil_Specialist? Thanks in advance.

Ladies -
I know the neighborhood as it is very close to an apt I've stayed in before. Just across from a great grocery store, ATM's and a currency exchange. You're a manageable walk from Help, etc. although I'd taxi it home.
That said, my advice is to spend as little time in your apt as possible.

Larry I went down last March. My advice is don't go unless you can afford to do a return trip.
I don't think that you will need much suntan lotion as it will be the start of fall down there in April, it will rain, but so what all the termas are indoors.
Take your own condoms, read the trip reports and the guides. One word of warning!!! Try not to wear out your dick like others on this board have.
