Hey Guys... I'm thinking of making my first trip to Rio (June 3rd or 4th) but I'll be by myself..so I'm a little nervous. I've travelled Philippines and Thailand quite a bit and thought about a change of scenery. Any tips on a decent place to stay for ($50-$75) that's garota friendly and close to copa beach? And any tips on how to get from the airport to the hotel?

I'm a newbie in clubhombre, I'll go to Sao Paulo for the first time in June 8 - 14. Thanks to all of you that post your trip reports which give me so much information about Brazil and Sao Paulo.

Just be real careful in SP. Big city with lots of crime, unemployment and drugs. Stay close to a local if you can or go with groups of friends.

It's official, I've got a buddy committed to go with me...it will be the first trip for both of us. Let me know if anyone else is headed down during this timeframe. We arrive the morning of the 7th (will advise of hotel/apartment plans next week--somewhere in the Cocacabana area). Tentatively departing on the 13th, but that may shift a day or two either way...Yippee! I'm so g.d. excited it's pathetic...

We're all set, got the tix issued today & confirmed an apartment through Kenn @ ez-riorentals. Arriving the morning of July 7th (AA#905) departing on the 13th...should be a bloodbath If I can stay out of jail, stay out of the hospital and not bring home any communicable souvenirs...I'll be one happy camper!

Well, I went into the Brazilian Consulate on Bayshore Drive in Miami this morning to submit my visa application. Needless to say, what a zoo! I would recommend doing it by mail (its only about a one week turnaround & you don't have to deal with the lines, etc); plus, they only accept in-person applications between 10a-12n. Of course, I got the 20-questions routine about "are you sure you're not going on business?" and "you don't have any meetings?", "this is just a vacation?"...right! Of course, by their definition: "My visit will be strictly for tourism (no paid activities are allowed)". Are Termas 'paid activities'? What about Help Disco & escorts on a daily basis??? Soungs like a gray area to me Perhaps they should have a "sex tourist" ("turistica de sexo"?) category so they know we're just die-hard pervs going down (no pun intended) for a good time & not someone applying for a tourist visa who's actually going on business & trying to avoid the extra scrutiny? Regardless, with any luck, I'll pick up my visa tomorrow afternoon (between 3-4pm only now) and be one step closer to paradise!

The "no paid activities are allowed" relates to you getting paid. It is highly unlikely that Terma, Help and Escort girls are going to pay you. Although one time I did get a rebate from a Help girl, still went out of pocket. It looks like I will be in Rio around the same time as you.

I wonder if I could get a work visa? It seems very few Brasilero's provide that type of service, so I wouldn't be taking somebody's job. I've tried to get GCL to hire me, he just gave me one of those "Go fuck yourself" looks.

It is a big "if" that he left today, although I know he's counting days for his visa. Not sure about July though.

Actually, to avoid paying $1300 for a ticket, I just burned 100K miles (first class though, not business or coach) on United to get down and back. However, I'm now leaving on the 10th, so I'll see you for lunch and that's that. Damn, not even a going-away 65 run this time. That's the problem with weekend departures.

I have taken a very difficult decision and given over the majority of my precious holiday days to coming to Rio instead of my beloved Thailand. I blame you all, as your reports make the Brazilian ladies sound so great.

Hard to find really smokin' fares during summer prime time season - ticket prices all seem to go higher in June, July - then back down again until December for Reveillon (Brazil's New Year) and Carnaval.

That said, though, try www.travelzoo.com, and look for brazil specials. GateOne travel has had some packaged in the past that were cool, but I prefer apartments, and their pkgs are usually inclusive of a hotel (like Agosto's, which wasn't bad, actually).
