My dates for Rio are 10/21-26, and am starting the trip off with my first trip to Sampa the 19th-21st.
Vagabond I know we'll hook up in Rio.
I'm also looking for any guidance for SP. I have studies (or at least perused LaGuys SP Guide and the city sounds overwhelming. I'll be staying at the Hilton while there.

That's funny Yankee, I feel the same way about SP. I've read the guides on here but I just can't make sense of where a 1st-timer should stay and go in S. Paulo. I will be there for a couple days in November before my stay in Rio.

Sao Paulo definitely provides more choices than Rio. If you post what you are looking for: how much you are looking to pay; take home or on-premises; etc., I may be able to give you a short list. It is probably best to post these questions in one of the Sao Paulo discussion areas (or maybe in the thread that follows the most recent version of my guide) so others doing research on SP would be able to see the questions and answers later.

Second trip to Rio end of October or Early November
Will firm up dates the end of this week, wanted to know if anyone will be in town to hang out and hit some spots with
Also, would appreciate some help on where to stay in a nice part of Rio, apartment or hotel (guest friendly of course), willing to pay up to $80 per night US
I just got a membership on this site a couple of days ago, I have been reading a lot of trip reports and postings, is Barbarella still around? Is it any good?
Thanks

I have been to Rio many time and speak portuguese very very well(raised speaking portuguese). This time I have two weeks and will be in Rio starting Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005. This will also be my first time going by myself as I could not get anyone from my crew to go this time. I'm looking to meet some fellow mongers who's thing is Help disco. Termas are OK but I love working the Help scene and then bring the party back to my apartment. For me it's like playing game of the bachelor every night. I'm a 34 yr old layed back guy from New York who has a lot of experience with the Brazilian Cats. I'm not saying I'm Brat Pitt but I can hold my own. I'll tell you guys, its a whole different ball game when your a Tourist who can speak Portugese in Help. I'm not one idiots newbie mongers who walks into Help and pays 3 to 4 hundred reais. I've seen it happen way too many times. For these prices we really didn't need to get on plane and fly 8 to 10 hours from the States. Anyway, get in touch with me if you'll be down around the same time.......virgo

Will be arriving on October 15th - October 31 and over the course of two weeks, will have 10 friends (additional 4 are on the fence) there with me. Some newbies. Some experienced. Needless to say, we plan on making some new friends in Rio and re-acquainting with old. We all plan on being at Jag's wedding :-)
By Jaguar on Monday, September 19, 2005 - 02:41 pm: Edit |
Safadinho,
Let me know how many will be in your party so we can arrange a table for all of you near the stage. Also, how many girls do you want to join you?
Just let Felix know, he's the "Wedding Planner."

Just a note to Yankee7 and others who are looking to enjoy Sampa - be sure to check out the posts on the S. America board about closings of Romanza and Cafe Millennium, some of the better "dens of fun", in response to their blatantly sexual ads:
https://www.clubhombre.com/countries/southamerica/messages/31320.php
By Laguy on Sunday, September 25, 2005 - 07:19 pm: Edit |
Dagnome: Let's not make something out of nothing. The "closings" of Romanza and Cafe Millenium were for one day, maybe a couple, and there were many other places that were open then. This should all blow over after the Grand Prix is over today, and if it doesn't there still are numerous clubs in Sao Paulo besides those two, one of which (Romanza) I doubt anyone on this board would recommend anyway.

I will be returning to the land of plenty Oct 29 thru Nov 12. Every 6 months isn't enough. Hemp, how do you sit with the Mac and Cheese? Spending the last two weeks of Coffeemakers trip hangin. See you at the office.
By Valterreekian on Thursday, September 29, 2005 - 06:57 am: Edit |
Dean, the easiest and most reliable way is to contact Don at Amerioca Tours. He can set you up with everything from transportation to accomidation. His tour guide service is a reasonable $250 for a whole week and he will see that you get to all the favorite spots. He also knows who is in town and can set you up with the Gang!
Good Luck, and come well rested, as this place can really wear you out!
Carpe' Diem

Hey guys, William5 here, and returning to Brazil. will be there Dec. 21 - Jan. 8th. Want to know if any hombres will be in town for the New Years festivities, have a great place, beach view for fireworks that could host about 20 people for a party. Let me know if any of you are going to be around. Would also like to set up a Festa.
By Yankee7 on Sunday, October 02, 2005 - 05:59 pm: Edit |
Scooby-
If you take full advantage of the research that can be done on this board, you will have plenty of knowledge for your first visit.
I'd certainly suggest printing out Bwana Dick's Guide and memorizing it like verses from the bible. I'd also recommend that as you do read reports from guys that you find helpful then PM themwhen you start to have more specific question.

Dean,
Go to trip reports, and look up Bwana Dik, and it will show up there. You might want to look at LA Guy's report on Sao Paulo too, both very worthy efforts. IMHO

I just canceled my Thailand trip, and changed it to Rio. I'll be in Thailand over Xmas anyway, so I thought I'd better get my Rio fix while I can. Don't want to burn myself out in LOS.
I arrive on Nov 19th and depart Nov 27th. Looks like I can hook up with some of you that have been responding to my trip reports.
Val, will you still be there on the 19th?

Gonna be in Rio Nov. 25--Dec 4. Staying in one of Don's apts. right behind Alcazar where I've stayed many times. Coming by myself for my 50th birthday--my buddy cancelled yesterday. Ken said there's a "shitload of guys coming" for Thanksgiving. 9th trip and never done a festa----gotta do a festa for my birthday. Anybody interested? Hemp, Sandman, Bwana??

Chicopoppy sorry but Hemp is all festa out. Look forward to meeting you at the office. Thanks for the invite though. - Hemp

Chicopoppy - I'm going to be down Dec 16 - 21st -would love to celebrate your birthday with you if you are around. I will be down alone as well and could benefit from your advice. If you are interested, my email is mr_rogers_mail@yahoo.com
Also - how do you get one of these apartments? Is it better than a hotel?
By Chicopoppy on Thursday, October 20, 2005 - 04:08 am: Edit |
Mrrogers,
I'm leaving Dec. 4th, but you can contact Don or Ken at Amerioca Tours at 21-2522-1259 in Rio. E-mail is amerioca@hotmail.com; Their US telephone numbers that ring in Rio are: Calif: 916-218-6092
Calif: 408-884-5903; Florida: 305-735-8433;
I gain nothing by recommending them. Don has just always treated me right. Rhonda's (Don's sister) mother-in-law cleans my apartment whenever I want for 50 reals--clean fresh towels and sheets. She even straightens up my clothes and dishes without me asking. Honest fair people. Apartments give me privacy and a little more room to lounge around. I don't stay there because it's cheaper, although I'm sure there are cheaper apts.

Returning to Rio 3rd of december to 13th of december. Most likely using one of Dons apartments. Pm me if you would like to meet for beers or something.
