There are MANY extensive reports on this board. Just traverse it.
Step 1- Read Bwana Dick's Rio Guide
Step 2- Read LaGuys Sampa report
then start on the trip reports.
Then head south and you'll never be the same.

hey, guys looking for a guy or a group of guys to hang out with on my first trip to rio. let me know if your looking to teach the new guy the ropes

By Catocony on Sunday, December 11, 2005 - 06:45 am:  Edit

Pennywise,

Hire Don and Ken at Amerioca tours. While it's easy enough to meet vets down there, we're not there to lead you by the hand. That's Don's job.

By Whitty on Sunday, December 11, 2005 - 02:00 pm:  Edit

Pennywise, investing your money with Don is the best thing that you can do, I still use him every trip, and although I do a lot of things on my own or with other guys that I have met down there, he is a great guy to have watching out for you.

on my first trip, my buddy got violently ill, Don's sister had a doctor at our hotel for a middle of the night housecall fairly quickly, it is nice to have someone on the ground who can help you if something goes wrong.

Heys guys, looking forward to meeting any fellow hombres during the New Years, down Dec. 22nd - Jan. 7th.

On the last trip Sandman almost killed me at a Vips festa, 11 girls and 3 guys(what a way to go!). But being the gentleman he was, he pitch in when he saw some garotas not getting the attention they deserved, what a giver!!

See you down there.

Kairon, many Hombre's will be there:-) I should be there, in and around Sao Paulo and Rio?

Just have a funny question for you, what's in L.A.?

I am a newbie to Rio and I will be there during 25th to 29th. I was thinking about restaurant and club activitie in Copacabana and Ipanema area during Christmas holidays. How does the mongering activities goes on during holidays? I love to go terma hopping on my trip. Anybody planning to do a terma hopping? I hate to be in town when most of the garotas are gone for the holidays.lol.

Hombres...I am having difficulty obtaining a tourist VISA (not enough time before the trip). Can anyone offer any suggestions for other options? Thanks.

K

By Catocony on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 05:38 pm:  Edit

Well, without a visa, you can't go to Brasil, so the other suggestions would be for alternate countries. Since it's summertime, Argentina would be at the top of my list. It's a pleasant time of the year in SEA, so Thailand or the PI would be good options.

By Hookemhorns on Monday, December 19, 2005 - 10:49 pm:  Edit

Kairon:

If you show them you have a ticket, you can get it expedited if you show up at the consulate. Just explain that you already have hotel reservations, etc, dress nice, etc. I think it is a next-day pickup for visas in Houston, especially if just for tourism.

By Bdboy4fun on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 - 10:08 am:  Edit

Kairon,
Hookemhorns is right. Just go to the consulate/embassy and show your itinery and be courteous and patient. Under your circumstances, the good people in the embassy will help you out and they will ask you come back and pick up your passport in a day or two. It will be closed on 26th Dec(I think, check with the local consulate). Pick the visa yourself just to avoid the mail problem during holiday seasons. You still have plenty of time. The people in the embassy will help you out and they get really busy during the holiday season. I am a newbie myself and I was told its all worth it!!lol. Good luck, be patient and courteous.

By Kairon on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 - 05:15 pm:  Edit

Just returned from the consulate in Los Angeles -- was denied. :-( I was very polite to the very rude girl behind the counter, and she told me that the earliest tourist visa they will issue is for the 6th Jan. Also, because for Brazil, visas are jurisdictional, I cannot use any other consulate that may be less busy.

I have a room at the Le Meridien that I may not be able to get refunded, so if I can't, I'll send the info to you hombres who may be interested for your partying needs.

By Bdboy4fun on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 - 09:35 pm:  Edit

Sorry to hear that Kairon. Why don't you walk in tomorrow to see if anybody else other than the girl is accepting the visa application. Then try to submit the application. On the other hand, somebody else can submit your application on your behalf too but there is an extra $10 fee which (I think but I am not sure)and give it a try. Give the embassy a call and find out. Don't let small things ruin your holiday. Some people have bad days especially on busy days. Or try one of travel agency that might do it for a fee and you can find them in the yellow pages and they're call passport services. Or you can find this guys/gals working for travel agency at the embassy carrying with them tons of passport around inside embassy. Talk to them and they might be able to help you. You need 5 days of processing days including the submission day and that puts you on the margin. Its the holiday seasons and cheer up. A bit of hassle but give it a try. About the Le Meridein, when is it booked for. I am looking for apartment/hotel too. I am all set to Rio from 25th to 29th but I am having trouble booking the apartment for 2 of us. I need 1 apartment with 2 separate rooms with separate washroom in each of the room. Does any of the hombres know any apartment or agency that might have any available? BTW, does anybody know where can I get the vitamin V or similar variety in Rio?Is it true you can get them over the counter in Rio? A bit of enhancement on the performance side will spice up the nocturnal activities. Anybody else going on the same time frame? Love to see you hombres in Rio. Thanks in advance.

By Sf4dfish on Thursday, December 22, 2005 - 04:47 pm:  Edit

It`s true, you can buy V`s, C`s, at most pharmacies w/o a Rx.

But shop around, their prices also vary from place to place.

Also, I do hope you plan to visit termas in the afternoon. I rather get laid than get sun-burned.

By Bdboy4fun on Thursday, December 22, 2005 - 08:19 pm:  Edit

Thanks sf4dfish. I agree with going to the termas rather than to the beaches. getting laid vs sun-burned. pleasure vs pain. lol. What should I go for? C or V? Which is better? How much do V and C cost in Rio? If its over the counter than its good news. Anybody going to Rio on the 25th to 29th Dec. Email me and we will hook up and let me buy the first beer. I love to see my fellow hombres and we can hit the termas later after the yakking session.

By Sf4dfish on Friday, December 23, 2005 - 04:09 pm:  Edit

The prices for both vary.

I recommend buying the 20 mg. C`s, and the 100 mg V`s.

I`m not a medical professional, and rarely use the stuff. But according to friends, you should take the whole C first (DO NOT CUT IT), and after about 24 hours, if you think you need a boost?, cut up a 100 mg. V, and take what works for you? About 25 mg., or 50 mg., or a little bit more? You should be able to perform as if you were a thoroughbred on a stud farm. grin

But one word of advice I try to give all newbies, your gonna find yourself wanting to indulge around the clock 24 hours:-) MAKE SURE YOU GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF REST/QUALITY SLEEP! After the termas and dinner, I like to take a nap, before heading out for nocturnal activities.

Many Hombre`s wear themselves out, and get sick. Especially sore throats, from swapping to much saliva or eating them all out (DATY).

Have a great time!

I need help. I overstayed my tourist Visa and I am trying to come back to Rio. The consulate won't give it to me without paying the fine. I can't pay the fine until I arrive in Brazil. Can someone help?

Diversitey and myself arriving the 27..if some of you guys want to hook up with us PM either one of us, we are considering a Festa this trip!

By Kairon on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 - 05:25 pm:  Edit

Great news, thanks to the feedback from fellow Hombres, esp HookEmHorns and BdBoy4Fun -- I managed to get my Visa today, so I will be in Rio between the 30th and the 6th, and am hoping to meet some of you during that time (PM me).

Here's what I went through (those who know the drill, or already have a visa, skip the rest)...

Last Wed, I booked a flight to SF after confirming with them that they would be able to process the application and get it back to me before my trip (the latest I could've had it in my hands would've been Wed the 28th). This obviously goes against the general policy of the visa only being issued from the embassy that is in your jurisdiction -- for me, it was clearly Los Angeles. The SF Embassy made an exception saying that as long as you apply in person, that they would be able to grant you one outside of your embassy -- even their website states this. I was still a bit concerned, and skeptical that it wouldn't happen, but went through with it anyway. Thurs morning, I drive to the embassy and wait for 2 hours in line -- one clerk processing agents, and the other the general public, with brazilians in yet a third separate line.

I finally get to the window, and the clerk was relatively nice, esp compared to the one I had to deal with in LA. She goes through the forms and stops at my itinerary, and as I was anticipating her saying it couldn't be done, she instead, just commented that it would need to be expedited.

She made a little notation on my form, and I gave her a pre-paid USPS Express envelope, then left thanking her. I had forgotten to take the tracking info, so was going to call this afternoon to get a status, but before I did that, my Passport with Visa arrived!

So it took one day to process and one day to deliver (I could've had it sooner if I picked it up in person):
* application submitted Thurs PM
* Visa issued sometime between Thurs and Fri PM mail pickup
* Visa in my hands overnight (weekends/holiday in between, so that doesn't count)

Obviously if you plan a little better, you won't have to go through this, but I think it's useful info for those who got themselves in a jam like me.

Kairon

By Catocony on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 - 05:36 pm:  Edit

Kairon,

The normal procedure is two-day service - drop off one day late in the morning, pick up the next early afternoon. At least, that's how it works at the Embassy in DC.

Arriving in Rio 1-20 through 1-26 with 3 buddies for my 4rth trip. Got one newbie heading down with us, can't wait to see his eyes light up when he steps into a boite for the first time.

By Bigjohn on Monday, January 02, 2006 - 10:15 am:  Edit

Hello, I am going to Sao Paulo in July with a buddy of mine and will be staying the week of the 23-30. Can anyone reccomend a motel close to some good clubs that we can have easy access to? also if anyone can meet up with us and show us the ropes, that would be nice also. And what is 50R? is that like $50usd or like about $25usd.Thanks

By Kojak on Tuesday, January 03, 2006 - 03:58 pm:  Edit

Bigjohn,

50R is about $20US. The rate is about 2.3R to 1US dollar. Go to http://www.accordhotels.com/accorhotels/ for hotel. Enter Sao Paulo and dates - you will get a list of hotels. Parthenon hotel rooms are nice and clear for about $40/night. Parthenon Sao Paulo The Excellence is 100yds from Bomboa. Parthenon St. Lawrance is right next to the metro station Paraiso which make it very easy to get around Sao Paulo. Much cheaper and faster.
