I am leaving on the 17th to BKK and then will leave Bankok around the 21st to Pattaya to spend my birthday on the 22nd.
Hopefully the current events will be over by the time we get there!

Hi Bitsko
So far it looks totally bloodless and seems to have the support of the king, both are good signs so hopefully everything will be sorted out befor Nov. I am going as planned, on a bright note at leased the bhart seems to be getting a little cheaper, more mongering for your buck.
By Sojourner on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 02:23 am: Edit |
I'm in Bangkok and right now things look like they've already settled down. There have been a few isolated violent incidents, but pretty mild for a military coup in the third world. I'd be surprised if things weren't back to "normal" by the time you're here, Bitsko
By Dave_the_rave on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 02:48 am: Edit |
Last night we were still partying in Angelwitch at 2.00am. Police say we can open as normal, but some think a midnight curfew may happen. With HM King's name being mentioned, this carries ENORMOUS weight. No violence or bloodshed, OK there is uncertainty but not panick! You know the Brit and US media - "sensationalism!"
Monitor the news day-to-day and it should work itself out as things do when HM King's name is mentioned. Too early to say what exactly will happen but ousting a dictator is not a bad thing!
By bluelight on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 08:02 am: Edit |
WOW - things are alot different in SEA. An elected Prime Minister gets thrown out of office and the constitution of the country gets rewritten by a military/king group. A pupet government gets inserted until "elections can be held next year" wink wink... and the locals call it "ousting a dictator"?
By Isawal on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 08:20 am: Edit |
BL
Think what could happen if Bush could run for another term on the other hand be carful whats happening in Thailand could give him ideas. Now that you are looking at the SEA chats its just a short step ti for first trip to LOS. LOL
By Dave_the_rave on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 02:36 pm: Edit |
Sooner be here in Thailand during a coup, than under your boy Bush in Iraq. What a cluster f*ck!
By Phoenixguy on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 09:00 pm: Edit |
Hey Dave - any chance you could send the King and military over here to the US for a repeat performance? I think at least half the country would back them.
By Dave_the_rave on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 11:55 pm: Edit |
As per usual the foreign media twisted this into something it was not. The talk of a curfew was bullshit, Patpong, Nana and Cowboy have operated with normal closing times being 2.00am. The talk of danger for foreigners was also not true.
Only in BKK - tourists having photos taken posing next to tanks and troops. I have described it as a farang friendly coup LOL!
By Dave_the_rave on Saturday, September 23, 2006 - 03:34 am: Edit |
THAILAND UPDATE - Pattaya bar closing times remain at 3.00am with BKK remaining at 2.00am. A noted difference is that NANA PLAZA has been closing closer to 2.30am. It is ironic that people party on as normal through a "friendly coup" but the biggest obsticle has been heavy monsoon rains. Only in Amazing Thailand!
WARNING - Pattaya has suffered very heavy rainfall, which on some days has caused flooding along Beach Road and Second Road. I advise you to check weather reports before entering the Beach Road area.
By Porker on Saturday, September 23, 2006 - 11:42 am: Edit |
Dave, cops don't like rain? Who'd have guessed?
Good news re: extended closing times. Sucks for the lights to go off and be cast out into the Nana parking lot at 1 AM.
By Dave_the_rave on Sunday, September 24, 2006 - 01:54 am: Edit |
Hi Porker, yeh this applies to all Thais they really hate the rain. It's like they will melt or something. But, in saying that the Thais are very susceptible to colds and fever when they get wet and cold.
I have to report that the late night scene after the bars close in BKK is pretty pathetic compared to Pattaya. There are fewer decent girls left - part of the low season blues?
By Dave_the_rave on Sunday, September 24, 2006 - 02:00 am: Edit |
Nana Disco still has plenty of hotties, but you can't leave it too late in Soi Nana. On the streets after bar closing times (namely 2.00am) the pickings are fewer than they used to be. Just down Soi Nana in the Raja Hotel parking lot "SIN" is usually going strong until the early hours. Mongers have the choice of the disco or the rooftop garden. To sum up - venues are a much better option than the streets in BKK.

Well since I'll miss my annual October retreat this year, I'll be damn sure not to miss my Feb last fling before the spring/summer doldrums set in. Prob pull a sancho 3 day trip in dec and then head to pattaya sometime in feb for a week or so.
I'll update the calender once I'm back from china and book a flight.

It looks like I'll begin my next holiday in Thailand, the second week of December. I'll probably end up going to Indonesia, so I'll be looking for plenty of learned advice from Indo vets. Hopefully I'll be able to meet up with a few hombres.

Hi Guys, good to hear the boys are back in town soon, because it has been quite a dry spell for CH mongers in LOS over this low season. Generally speaking BKK is quiet following the coup which is only natural. Some Hotel groups in BKK and Phuket are suffering record cancellations following the recent coup. Never mind, this just means more girls for you guys.
As always I look forward to meeting old and new friends. Please feel welcome to come to Angelwitch in Nana and I will be happy to meet you. If you are going to Pattaya please say "Hi" to the new Angelwitch manager. Patrick is from the USA and he is a very friendly host. Angelwitch Pattaya is a HUGE bar so ask the staff to fetch Patrick. Please give Patrick my kind regards if you decide to meet him. FYI, Patrick has a good knowledge of Pattaya, he could help you with local information. Cheers!

Dave, looking forward to finally meeting you. Hopefully there'll be a few of the boys in town when I arrive. I'll stay in bangkok only one or two nights then head to Pattaya then probably Phuket before aiming for Sumatra.

Beware the Giant Rat of Sumatra!

Indeed I shall, Mr. Holmes, indeed I shall.
Of course I'll be tracking the palm civet, in hopes of scoring some premium Kopi Luwak, so I should be safe.

Who will be joining me for a drink (or six) to celebrate my birthday in Pattaya on the 12th November?
By Dave_the_rave on Friday, October 27, 2006 - 03:10 am: Edit |
Hi Isawal,
Well, you will meet Patrick, the American manager of Pattaya Angelwitch. He likes beer as he's not a shot man, but he's a very good host. Patrick knows a lot of people, he was the former TQ-2 manager for five years. Patrick also knows some good late night drinking spots.
As for me I never know what the Bosses plans are, so I can't say if I can make it or not. Obviously I will try to make the party if at all possible. Start counting the days buddy!
By Valterreekian on Friday, October 27, 2006 - 06:48 am: Edit |
Hey Wombat! Haven't heard much from you since you went on that shit flicking chase in Rio a couple of years ago in Rio. That was the only time I met you. Hope to hook up again sometime. It is good to see you posting again
