I'm excited by the fact that the Real has stayed above 2.25 for a couple of weeks and that a lot of the termas are having pretty hefty promotions for World Cup. The championship is on July 9th at 2:30 Rio time, I think, so that's a nice way to end the week there. Catch the game and head to the airport, although traffic could be a bitch when the game is over and Brasil has won. Everyone will be riding around celebrating, firing off machine guns, that kind of shit

I will be at Atlantico Copacabana. I hear its not far from HELP and LUOMO.

The Atlantico is very close to Luomo - about a minute walk counting time on the escalator in the shopping mall - but is a cab ride from Help. Alcazar is at Almarante Goncalves and Atlantica, so two short blocks down from Miguel Lemos.

The Princess is close to Help/TA but a cab ride from Luomo and the Metro stop there. Either place is good for newbies. Book a jr suite at the Atlantico and except for the mattress, which will probably suck, everything else will be good. They have a great breakfast by the way, with eggs, small sliced sausages, etc. The restaurant at the Atlantico looks like the ass end of Help in the mornings with all of the GdPs in there in their best putawear, freshly-fucked hair and smudged-as-hell makeup having their post programma cafe de manha.

The Princess is nice, I've stayed there once or twice, for a day or two, but my complaint there is there is no way to make sure you get a room with a double bed instead of two little twin beds. The mattresses are better than the Atlantico but fucking on a twin bed is best left to termas and not a hotel room, IMHO. But, you get the fridge and balconies and everything there, so a nicer hotel but with way to many twin beds.

The Atlantico is a 20-25 minute walk to Help, it's more like 12 long blocks. It's a small hike just to Atlantico - close to 10 minutes with the long waits to cross Barato Ribero and N.S. Copa. I walk a lot but I don't think I've walked it all the way before, it's a cab ride between the two.

Copacabana Mar is down behind Copacabana Palace, you're taking a taxi about everywhere you go, although the Metro stop is only a block or so away.

From Help to the Atlantico it's 10 block; 6 blocks along Av. Atlantico and 4 blocks up toward the hill on Siqueira Campos. I've walked between the two too many times. It is about a 20-25 minute walk depending upon your pace and the traffic.

About the distance from Luomo to Alcazar, I forget to take into account the distance toward the Atlantica Av. I think on this trip, I will just walk from Luomo after a long day of ass grabbing at Luomo.lol. Cat and Branquinho, how about you guys racing me from Luomo to Alcazar. That will sure ingrain the distance in me for sure and I will learn my lesson the hard way. BTW, Branquinho are you going to be in Rio at that time too?

It's outdoors, and there aren't that many tables. If you use Don's services, his office is around the corner so if you don't find any gringos at Alcazar, you can try at his place.

Do not necessarily plan on any of the guys being there. My personal policy is that if a newbie wants to tag along, that's fine, but I'm not a guide, and the other vets aren't either, so don't expect one of us to be around whenever you need us. We can help to a certain degree, but if it's your first time, and you don't speak a word of Portuguese and aren't at all familiar with Rio, you have two choices.

1, do your planning. You will do this anyways but you should plan on being able to get around on your own. Read Bwana's guide and print out a copy of UWPhoto's cheat sheet. The cheat sheet is a little out of date but still mostly accurate. Carry that with you, as it has address, telephone numbers, etc of the major mongering hot spots and escort agencies. Study a map or two of Rio, just so you have a general idea of where things are before you get there. Read the trip reports and discuss threads on here and you'll have a good base of knowledge.

2, still do planning, but use Don or someone to show you around. Airport pickups, cell phone rental, translation help, all of that stuff, you will need it, and it's a small investment to make to get that stuff.

The rate is different every day. The interbank rate is currently 2.23, so if you were in Brasil tomorrow, the ATM rates would be 2.22-2.23 or so.

I hit Corcovado 2.5 years ago and unless they installed a termas up there since then, I won't be going back. I hit Pao de Azucar last year I think, maybe the year before.
