The new COPA flights out of Medellin into Panama sure make connections to the west coast a lot better than they were last year.
One thing about the LAX PTY leg of your trip. That is a long flight for a 737, COPA has some of the newest planes, but they do not have a lot of leg room in coach. If you are over 6' your knees will be talking to you.

It is a long flight because you go to Houston first. I've done this leg before out of LAX. They don't really make it clear on your tickets but Copa code shares with Continental.
Nice thing is that Copa is a good airline.
Have a great trip.

I also get claustophobic on the long ass 6-7 hr LAX-PTY flight on COPA (even when upgraded), espec. since I'm so used to flying the bigger planes. 737-800s are ok for 3-4 hours IMO.
A better option out of LA is Delta to ATL-BOG-CTG; except for the last leg (MD-83) DEL/Avianca fly 767s or 757s with (IMO) more legroom.

Wow, a 15 hour bus ride. That is pretty extreme. Maybe I should just fly. I do want to see the countryside though.

Sniper
I called Copa Airlines and hey said the LA to Panama is a non stop and does not go to Houston Then the panama to Medellin is also non stop. The plane is a 737 and Im really excited this is the first flight since I was in the Marines in the 70's. Im going to take a bottle of Ambien with me so I can sleep all the way.

I did not want to have to go through customs or change planes in Bogata I heard its a pain in the butt.
Does any know if you have to go through customs in Panama if you are just changing planes to the same airlines.
Ps. Thanks for all the input guys its making this 50yr old newbes trip a lot eaiser.

Scooby, if you're just transitting to MDE, no need to go through customs in Panama City. Not much to see or do in the airport though. Bogota customs is a pain but it seems they've gotten better (bit faster) the last time I used them.
CO flies LAX-HOU-PANAMA-MDE.

How easy is it to get an inter-country flight from Medellin to Cartagena, day of. Reason being that I want to keep my options open after I get to Colombia so that I can go here or there spurn of the moment.
| By Hunter on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 09:16 am: Edit |
As long as it is not peak season you should be fine, there are 3 or 4 direct flights a day and they it is unlikely that they all are going to be full, plus you can fly Med - Bog - Ctg, which has even more flights.
So you should have no problem.
Hunter
| By Merlin on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 12:20 pm: Edit |
Agree w/ Hunter, good availability MDE-CTG if you go through BOG; SAM (part of Avianca) has direct MDE-CTG, but fewer of these direct routes. Also, the real cheap fares will be sold out earlier.

Are the girls at Medellin Mansion hooks, or are they just girls who like to party? I don't want to stay there if all those girls do is hang out and have me buy them drinks.
Thanks

Arte,
I might be able to catch up with you towards the end of your trip. I don't have a set date yet but probably the first week of August. I'm leaning towards checking out Club VIP but the Castle or Mansion is definitely an option. This will be my first trip to Medellin.

I'm thinking of visiting Medellin during my break from school around Thanksgiving time and planning on staying at the mansion. Does anybody know how good it gets during that time? Is there still plenty of action and what is the weather like?

Scooby,
I will be there in March as well. My apartment fell through (yet again). If I can get a purchase done in December (3rd attempt), I may have some room in my place as well.
