Trip Report Criteria

It seems that regardless of how worthy our reports may be to the moderators, we should still have them attached to our usernames.

I've had 2 reports considered by a moderator not informative enough to be considered a "trip report". I don't really care what it's called, but it seems I should still have it attached to my pad so other members can get a taste of my personality.

I really like to keep my reports concise and to the point, however, I do spend a lot of time getting and preparing very nice photos to submit. It seems that should make up for my lack of descriptive writing.

My last report was titled "The Thai Obssesion Continues". I thought it was a pretty nice report even if it was a little short. I tried to get the moderator to change the title to include my name, but he wouldn't until I fluffed up my report.

Av8tr,

Sounds like a great idea that Administration should pursue.

As we all know, reports are an extremely effective way to disseminate valuable information whether they are long or quite brief.

After all, it's the content that matters, nothing else. If you impart several good nuggets of information, that's enough for them to, at the very least, attach it to your pad for anyone to read. You shouldn't be asked to "fluff up" anything.

If you have new bits of information to share with board members, but it really isn't enough to constitute a full trip report, simply post the information under the appropriate thread in discus. If one doesn't exist, create a new one. I for one am happy to see some stricter guidelines being implemented for trip reports. In the past, I've seen "trip reports" posted that literally ran 3 or 4 paragraphs. Definitely not in the same league with reports that run for many pages and offer up plenty of details.

I put off some other work that needs to be done to write this and the linked topic below at the prompting of HombreJR who was very tempted to reply here. He often kicks the ball to me where it's more important to carefully communicate CH policies and/or reasons for doing things.

We want to emphasize that all contributions are valued, but we do use guidelines and criteria to improve ClubHombre's overall organization and quality.

A thorough look at our Trip Report Utility is detailed under the following topic:
-Welcome To Club Hombre-: Club Hombre - More Work Than Most Imagine: Trip Report Utility

All posts and photos are attached to the corresponding member's Homepad.

Trip Reports as defined on ClubHombre and accessible from our Trip Report Utility are held to a higher standard. We do this for a number of reasons as described in the linked section and also summarized below:

"Fluff" is not an accurate portrayal of what we suggested.

Here is our response to the first inquiry about TR Guidelines:
Thank you very much for the writeup and pics you submitted.

Although we allow some leeway with postings in the TripReports section of our site, we generally require greater detail in the written portion of a submission before entering it into our TripReport database. People utilizing our TripReport utility usually are seeking more information on perceptions or details about various experiences and locations. Photo based submissions are easily found using our Gallery tool.

We can review your submission again on request if you'd like to add details, perceptions, comparisons, or other text additions to that thread.

Here is our response to the more recent inquiry:
It's too short. Here are some suggestions to add content.

* Expand on the BKK Bars you visited, such as your impressions of Hot and Cold & Coyote
* Expand on your impression of Dynasty and the Pattaya bars
* Tell short stories for the photos: Where, when, how it went, etc... in whatever detail you feel comfortable with
* Detail your your best sesssion, your worst session, or however many you think might be interesting
* Talk any other experiences, theories, feelings, or whatever else comes to mind from your trip.

Let us know when you want us to review it again. At that time we'll update the title.

The response was worded this way because it was specifically asked if it was too short. Based on the wording of the request, I mistakenly assumed that there was an understanding and willingness to write a little bit more to at least reach one page. I was expecting at least a little bit of writing within a day or two, at which point I could make a single update instead of multiple passes. Since this isn't the case, I've updated the title, that's no big deal.

I presume most report writers and readers appreciate that we apply a standard rather than allowing for reports to be determined simply by where they are posted or when the author calls it one. To paraphase HombreJR's thoughts on this matter. If we reduced our criteria for adding posts to the Trip Reports database, we would have many more thousands of trip reports and this would render the trip reports database almost totally useless. I could go through discus right now and rattle off several hundred posts that meet this expanded criteria.

HombreJR and I both want to be supportive and encouraging for current and future trip report writers, but we do need to maintain some minimum guidelines. HombreJR is of the opinion that the guidelines I use when processing reports are too lax, on a number of occasions I processed reports that HombreJR didn't think met a reasonable standard to be called a CH trip report. The reports Murasaki refers to above were likely processed by me after being bypassed by HombreJR.

Hombre,

Holy shit, I never knew this Trip Report Utility existed. For numbnuts like me, why don't you put it in the photo section too. That way,I'll be sure to spot it. Only kidding...

Once again, you intelligently plead your case. Your suggestions were not implying "fluff" at all, but his suggestion has some merit.

BTW, I've gone completely through the chat board trying to find that fucking "Reporter B," to give him a piece of my mind for fucking with you and interupting your trip, but I can't find the bastard. I think I know who "Reporter A" is, but the son of a bitch "B" keeps eluding me. Want to give me a little hint?

As always, it's a pleasure to enjoy your board daily.

Jag, you are too funny. AZ

Azguy,

Funny? I'm not trying to be funny. For Christ sake, will someone give me a little hint about the true identity of "Reporter B." I only want to help out Hombre, but tracking "B" down is driving me crazy.

Shit, I feel just like Perry White, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen trying to find Superman because that bastard is probably someone I know and don't realize it. Clark "Fucking" Kent come out and identify yourself!!!

It's OK with me that some of my reports are not considered informative enough to be labeled a "trip report". I just wish that my short "trip reviews" could be accessed by other members when they go to my pad. I use other members pads when deciding whether to meet them while travelling, and find them a great way to evaluate a stranger.

I was planning on going back and adding more impressions of the trip, but I got very busy at work, and then forgot about it for awhile. I just don't enjoy writing very much, although I do try to include helpful information.

I go back over Xmas, and I'll try to put a little more effort into my next report.

Av8tr,

Get to work on it because we'd all like to read it.

Take care my friend,

It would be cool to have a place on your pad that you could upload documents that you could select who could view it, anyone, members, etc. could be an excel file, word doc, pics, whatever you choose. It could also be private, so you could have docs there for reference. Just a thought. AZ
