Thanks Jimmy. I have stayed at this place twice before and it was nice to see the pool again. Are the owners still some German or Dutch guys? The only complaint I have about this place is that it is right on the flight path for incoming jets to Puerto Plata. But then so is Sosua as a whole.
What I really like about this hotel is that it is on the outskirts of the town. You need a car but that's no big deal. There are some pretty fine homes in the immediate neighborhood including several that are right on the ocean clifts. I visited the casino a couple of blocks away but was more interested in B(lack)J(ack) than B(low)J(jobs) in those days. The disco in the casino looked packed on a Saturday night.

The Voramar is a guest friendly hotel at the far edge of town on Alejo Martinez, just a short way past where it intersects with Pedro Clisante. Look for Blue 7 on my Sosua Map.
The owners/management are Dutch, and most of their clientele appears European. They have a nice pool with a small bar next to it. Across from the office is a large dining area with a nice and varied menu.
I was able to get a rate of $30 per night, but had to pay my entire 8 night stay in advance. The rooms looked nice for the most part, but I did see roaches on several occasions and had a faucet that constantly leaked. While I got mosquito bites in town, my room seemed to be free of them.
The rooms do not have a phone nor a fridge. Safes are available for an additional charge, but they are small.
While some may view being on the outskirts as a benefit, I found it to be a burden. Finding a moto at night can be a problem.
While I've read mostly good things about this place, I doubt I'll stay here again as I had some additional problems.
1. The cleaning staff leaves at 3pm. I shooed them away until I left at 2pm one day (no "do not disturb sign") and didn't get my room cleaned and had to get fresh towels from management.
2. Several of the towels I received were badly worn with holes and tears.
3. Their dryer broke for several days, during which time I received damp towels if any.
Their price was right, but in the future I will more likely stay at the Blue Dolphin, Sosua Palace, or Europa.
Pros: Price, Pool, Restaurant
Cons: Location, Service, No Phone/Fridge

Voramar is mentioned in 2013/06 Camaro1257 - Sosua Otra Vez
quote:Hotel Voramar is in Playa Chiquita. When I arrived there was no taxi for airport transfer so I had to pay my own taxi. The owner Henk reimbursed me and paid for my taxi when I left also. The web site has beautiful women all over it leaving the impression that there are women on site like New Garden, guess what?...NOT! The only women here are the bartenders and housekeeping.
Hotel Voramar is no New Garden with the hermanos de Nueve York yelling loudly about the last nights conquest, everybody spoke German and no entiendo nada. Breakfast was buffet style fruit, sliced salami and bread every morning. They did have a restaurant but I did not eat there other than breakfast.
The room is spacious and clean but it did not have a refrigerator. I requested one and a mini fridge was placed in my room. The closet has a safe with a key lock. I had a very comfortable King Size bed. The air conditioner worked but it was a little lacking in cold air and I saw a little critter when I first moved in but I guess he found somewhere else to live.
As far as tranquility is concerned there is no comparison to the other hotels I have stayed at on the north coast. If you want to rest solo or wife up without all the "EXTRA" this is the spot. I walked to El Centro in about 25 minutes but it is a 5 minute moto ride.
