BTW, just curious - are you familiar with Azteca at all or are you just shooting in the dark? Are you aware that it isn't a puta parlor...it's a legit massage parlor? A couple of the masajistas have been known to deliver the mildest of "extras"...but essentially, it's a straight massage operation...only a pre-game show for most of us who post here. As such, the standard $5 tip (which is a 25% tip) is well appreciated by the masajistas. I and most of the Azteca regulars I know follow a similar tipping scale...$5 for a generic massage, $10 for above average service, $15-20 for special service.

It's true that every non-puta may have her price, but the vast majority of us visit Azteca for nothing more than a good rubdown...hopefully rendered with a sensual touch. Exactly what are YOU going for? I believe most service workers will tell you that they love being overtipped, but they regard overtippers as "pathetic". The ladies get their own separate shower facility...the oversize shower that is otherwise used for the the "baños corporal" (hand body bath). IMO, the only issue comes down to quality...i.e. getting your wife a massage equivalent in quality to what she is accustomed to with the higher dollar U.S. legit massage providers. There are a good number of newer hires who are less than highly professional masseuses at Azteca at this time. For a high quality massage, I would recommend Lola, Marta, Elizabeth and Mary (pronounced Marie) on the day shift (10-6). I'm much less familiar with the night shift, but I would strongly recommend Velia (pronounced Bellia) who works from 3-11.

Btw, they even have what could be used as a his and her treatment room off the reception area. One standard massage table along with a smaller one side by side in the same room (the smaller table looks like it would only comfortably accomodate a petite to average size woman). I'm NOT saying that I'm certain that they would necessarily permit two nekkid folks of of the opposite sex to occupy the same room, but I can't think of another more logical use for this two table room.

I'm planning to make a weekend trip to TJ Nov 3-5. My plan was to hit Azteca every day before I go to either AB or CC (never been to the other bars). (Gotta loosen up before hitting the bars, cuz everytime I go, I'm nervous meeting/talking to the chicas.) Water is on most days but you never know. You can always call ahead and ask if a shower is critical. When there isn't running water, the girls are obliged to give you the alcohol rub and it's quite effective. Many girls will be happy to give you the rub at your request even when there are no water problems.

I've been focused on my favoritas in recent months so I haven't evaluated any new talent in that time. You can always ask for a specific masajista though you may have to wait longer in that case. Azteca is in the middle of the the tourist district and so is relatively safe. You still have to be on your guard at night - especially for petty scams like the flower girls. Entrance to stairway going up to Azteca is on south side of Calle 2 (Benito Juarez) just a few steps west of intersection with Revolucion.

Hours are 10AM-11PM - which basically means you have to be there not much later than 10PM to get a massage.

The evening receptionist at Azteca can communicate fairly well in English, but she's about the only one. She usually is there between 4-5PM. Daytime receptionist has a tiny amount of English and none of the masseuses that I know speak any English. The 3 spanish words you need to know are fuerte, mediana, and suave -- respectively a strong, medium, or soft massage - most of the masseuses will ask you how strong a massage you want. Most of the customers are gringos with minimal spanish just like you, but the business gets done.

I have been to Aztec Masssage several times recently. I used Jessica and she was excellent. She does not give any sexual hints just a straight massage. She is also young and quite attactive. But generally it is best (in my experience there) not to ask for anything sexual or even sensual. With repeat visits most of them mix in some degree of affection as they feel comfortable with you. Go with the expectation of a good, relaxing massage and you won't be disappointed.

Sometimes, if they are doing something that I find arousing I try to communicate my enjoyment with reasonably subtle body language (humping of the table might be a little too blatant). That usually results in their spending more time in the erogenous zones.

And also remember that their pay per massage probably is not too much. So tip whatever you feel is appropriate for the combination of skill, attractiveness and sensuality they bring to the session. Erip's post of September 4, 2001, includes a sensible tipping guide.

Just want to say that Azteca is a real treasure. I am in Bangkok at the moment and STILL looking for a good oil massage. Only thing I have found better than Azteca so far is the price of Traditional Thai Massage $6. I'd rather pay the $20, get a GOOD massage and then head to a "Soapy" for the next round.

Check a couple of the better hotels, they have in house massage that is better than the street places.

The 380 pesos is in line with what I also heard about weekly salary for the girls. If they average just 3 massages per day and receive standard tips, they are doing OK relative to TJ income standards...but it is hard work when you factor in the clean-up and laundry duty the girls draw in addition to the massages.

Btw, maybe the "fantasma" of Azteca came into contact with the first masajista I was ever with at Azteca several years ago. She claimed to be a white witch. However, she did place a black curse on my upper back as I was in severe pain for a couple of weeks after receiving her "therapy".

ReyTJ, thanks for the financial perspective on Azteca. At 380 pesos for 6 days, they're getting a little over $6 a day. Even with three massages a day and a $5 tip each time, that's still only $21 a day. If they work an 8 hour shift, that's less than $3/hour. Considering what legit massage therapists earn in the U.S. per hour (not to mention what our favorite ladies in the ZN earn per hour), that's peanuts. The Azteca house policy of "no sex" must be very strongly enforced, 'cause I suspect it's occurred to more than one enterprising Azteca gal that she could earn a week's salary for a quick, half-hour roll in the hay.
