OK. Well, I ended up receiving money from the National Science Foundation and the Yale Center for International Area Studies to do about 250 interviews with men, women, and transgendered folks, along with HIV tests.

ray, mental health is not a priority in tijuana, they have something like 10 beds for psych patients and no real mental health provisions, outreach, etc. my interviews tried to look at stress, anxiety and depression, but i couldn't get into other kinds of illnesses because it is outside of my specialty

recruitment ads for jobs in TJ are certainly published in many southern and central mexican newspapers... and yes, some might come because of an ad (i have some evidence of that), however, is it an insidious plot? don't know... but i will say that many of the women who enter tijuana have worked as sex workers in other cities, and come to TJ because the money is better... they are not all suckered into coming here
