Drew, I have to disagree on the best breakfast in BKK.To me its the Old Dutch resturant on the corner of Soi Cowboy, and Soi 23.100 Bht will get you 3 eggs meats cheese toast, and 2 cups of coffee or tea.(go with the tea)Try it.You'll like it.

By drew who on Friday, June 07, 2002 - 01:50 pm:  Edit

I'm not big on the egg thing Bill, so I prefer the buffet at the Marriott with its huge selection of just about every fruit available in Thailand (fresh and dried), cheeses, meats, smoked fish, carving station, made to order omlets, pancakes, french toast, cereals, asian breakfast items, a huge assortment of breads and pastries, and as much juice tea and coffee as you like. The extra $8 doesnt bother me if I get what I want.
Of course it's entirely wasted on your girl - she's just going to want a plate of fried rice with an egg on top or a bowl of boiled rice.

In my estimation....The best breakfast buffet is at the Hilton. I usually stay there the night of my arrival. Of course if you are a 'Diamond' member all is free, providing you have the points. In any case the breakfast is always free. That even makes it that much better. I then move onto the Dynasty hotel, although I now have an apartment by the 'Grand Palace' for 9000 baht a month.

I am staying at the Omni Suites during my upcoming November first trip to LoS. I am a light breakfast eater. A little fruit, hopefully with honey (both types), and good coffee. Any tips ?

By drew who on Friday, June 07, 2002 - 04:42 pm:  Edit

The Omni has a restaurant downstairs, but I never tried it. "V" gave a thumbs up to their fried rice though...
There are various beer bars between the Omni and Suk that serve food also - and you have your choice of Brit and German...
The continental breakfast at the Marriott was around 100 baht, with fruit, a bread basket, cereal and your fill of coffee. Honey is on the table (and maybe under, but that's up to you).
You could also try one of the street fruit vendors and make your own coffee in your room.
Remember, Omni rooms are apartments and each has a full kitchen, so you can stock up you own breakfast goodies if you so desire.

Drew,
Since you have the Marriott "experience", some questions for you :)
1) Is the 550 Baht price for breakfast inclusive of all taxes?
2) Marriott and other 5 star hotel are not known to be monger friendly. Did you have any problems bringing chicas? Did you register as single or double when you booked the room?
3) What room rate did you get?

Thanks.

By drew who on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 - 02:14 pm:  Edit

BKK,
I believe it was inclusive of VAT (Thai "value added tax") but not of the 10% service charge - the one thing I don't like about their restaurants. I hate being told how much to tip, and I don't think it all goes to the servers either.
Never had a single problem bringing in chicas. If I did more than one in a day I'd just call for housekeeping to make the room up again. I did make a point of being as discrete as possible.
Generally I'd enter through the shops/cafe entrance, enter the lobby behind the bar and take the escalator to the second floor elevators. This route avoids all doormen and the front desk entirely. If I only brought a single LT girl I didn't worry about it and paraded them past everyone. I registered for two - no additional charge.
My initial room rate was about $120 base plus 17.7% service charge and VAT. But I ended up with a "special" rate of about $80. Later I moved to and executive room for about $110 (normal rate is about $155), but the free happy hour and special lounge weren't worth it. The room was though - it was a corner room with a spectacular view of the city. I loved that damned room...
The only reason I got a special rate is because my company is partnered with the owners of the hotel, so your probably stuck with the internet deals. The breakfast buffet is included in the room price.

My personal experience is only with the Omni. Lots of room, good staff, small safe, but NO room service. Remember this is a serviced apartment.
http://www.the-ascott.com/somerset/Other_Omni_Tower/omni_tower.htm Is their web site.
Dave at the Sexwork Cyber Center posted a VERY comprehensive review of Omni (with photos) a couple of years back). http://www.sexwork.com/Thailand/omni.html I based my initial reservation on this info, and was very pleased with my stay. (this was several months ago) I do NOT have recent info for you. (within the past two months)

Majestic Suites ( http://www.majesticsuites.com/) is VERY popular. They also have a small in room safe, lobby bar and restaurant with room service. The rooms at Majestic are generally described as smaller than at some places, but the staff and services are always complimented as first rate.

Both places are close to Nana, yet far enough to be away from some of the inherent noise. Both are guest friendly, though I believe that both are still asking guests to leave their ID at the front desk. (Personally, I have NO problem with this policy.) Though, the ID policy seems to change everywhere without notice, so don't be shocked if the girl is NOT asked for her ID.

If anyone else has favorite places to stay, Please add your info. I think I'm going to open a thread on the Discus board for this info. Make it easier to find, and keep up to date.

I just returned from a trip from Bangkok and stayed a week at the Bangkok City Inn, close to the World Trade Center area. Tel. (662)02-253-5372-3. The cost was only 1000B, which included a good breakfast buffet. The rooms were good, had HBO and CNN, for those who want premium TV channels. The only thing I didn't like was that they charged 400B to bring a guest back to spend the night. Overall, I would go back because there are some small massage parlors close by with extra service, and lots of good shopping areas close to the hotel. Also, has Skytrain to get to other areas of Bangkok nearby. Rooms are clean and hotel is relatively new, about 5 years old. Address is: 43/5 Rajdamri Rd Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330 Fax (662)02-253-7774

Can one book Dynasty Inn from abroad? Say, online? I could not find it on any web site. Also, same question re. Omni. Do these both allow taking a girl to your room without any hassel or charge?

Anyone know whether the Royal Orchid Sheraton (on the river) or the Hilton Hotels in Bangkok are guest friendly?

By Khun_mor on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 - 10:25 pm:  Edit

Royal Orchid is definitely unfriendly unless you are rich and on their VIP list. If you are khun regular farang and try to bring in a bargirl you will get the Royal freeze treatment and some disdainful stares. Never been in a Hilton in LOS. Most riverside hotels are uptight with BGs in my experience. Mongers are not their customer base

Never been in a Hilton in LOS.

If Paris has any say I'm sure they are guest friendly . LOL

Has anyone stayed at or know of the Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok? Booked package through travel agent and it was the only one that appeared "Guest" friendly going by sanukmaps. Booked 25/12/04 - 05/01/05. Double.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Never stayed there but it gets good reviews from the board members on Nanapong site.

The Conrad Bangkok is a very nice and new hotel, great service in the traditional Asian way.

The cheapest rate I could find was $122++ per night. I stayed there because I'm a Diamond level member with Hilton Honors, so I get complimentary upgrades to the executive floor if available, and it was. The EF lounge has great views, great food and drinks to eat all during the day and evening.

The one feature of the hotel that I truly enjoyed was the "Rain Shower", in my shower. The greatest shower I have ever had!

And I highly recommend the dinner buffet. Which costs about $15++.

Hi guys:

I have a 3-day stay in BKK. It is decision time on the hotel choice near NEP. I have Omni Studio apt at 1860B per day and superior room at the new wing in Dynasty Inn at 1400B per day.Which one should I go with?

By Hunterman on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 - 12:01 am:  Edit

Omni is probably a nicer place, with more facilities, but is a 5-minute walk down Soi Nana. Dynasty is in the middle of the action.

Up 2 U.

By Nytrash on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 - 09:43 pm:  Edit

Everytime I go to BKK I stay at the Somerset Hotel on Soi 15. It's very close to the action and 1600B. Extremely guest friendly.

Grand Business Inn, on Soi 11, (awgroup.com) is a great place to stay. Email them and get the 1200 baht per night rate, on the counter it's 2000 baht. New furnishings, modern, clean, with a great restaurant in the lobby. Centrally located, between Thermae and just a hop away from Nana BTS.

By Wnose on Saturday, November 19, 2005 - 12:04 pm:  Edit

Oh I forgot, Grand Business Inn is also totally girl friendly, no guest charge at all. Most of its guests seem to be guys like us. They do ask for ID from the girls but that seems to be more of a security issue rather than a hassle issue.

Omni Vs. Grand Pres.

About the same price, but which is better?

"Omni Vs. Grand Pres.

About the same price, but which is better?"

The Marriott through Priceline :-)

(I don't like either the Omni or Grand Pres. owing in part to the fact both screwed up my reservations in the past--also, they were a bit run down IMHO, although the Grand Pres. apparently has done some renovations)

By Ceenotes on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 01:26 am:  Edit

After taxes with priceline, your still looking at around $80+

No?

CN

By Laguy on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 04:06 am:  Edit

Actually, you would be looking at more than $80 a night at priceline. I suppose my post was not all that helpful but after my recent stay at the Marriott (which I liked soooo much better than the Omni or Grand Pres.)I couldn't help myself. OTOH, you probably get more bang for your buck at the Omni or Grand President.

As to the Omni vs. Grand President, I'm not sure there is that much to differentiate them quality wise, although the Omni arguably is in a better location (if you are going to spend alot of time at Nana). Others may have a different opinion about their relative merits though.

Does anyone know anything about the Sahara hotel on Soi 5. Any info would be appreciated.

By Walkingdude on Tuesday, December 05, 2006 - 07:02 pm:  Edit

Hail fellow Hombres, It has been awhile since my last trip to Paradise. I plan on heading over in February. I have stayed at numerous BKK hotels including run down places like Crown on Soi 6, the new and old Dynasty, the infamous Nana hotel and the high standards of the Landmark hotel. I am looking for a place with a huge mirror on the wall. Preferably one that goes all the way to the floor. I like the visuals.
Anyone know of any near Sukhumvit?

By Walkingdude on Monday, January 14, 2008 - 01:32 pm:  Edit

Looking for an upgrade to my normal Bkk lodging. Anyone stay at the Grand Sukhumvit by Sofitel since it opened? It's over on Soi 6 short walk to Nana and next door to the new Dynasty Grand hotel.

By Murasaki on Monday, January 14, 2008 - 06:10 pm:  Edit

I highly recommend this place on soi 8 - see post here: Adelphi Suites

By Jrsx on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 - 02:55 pm:  Edit

The Grand Sukhumvit by Sofitel is a fantastic hotel. I stayed there for two nights about a year ago in order to use up some Cathay Pacific Asia Miles that were about to expire. You may get some strange looks from the other guests when you bring a bargirl up to your room but that does not bother me in the least.

Has anyone stayed at the Montien hotel Bangkok. It looks good in the brochures !! P.S This is not the one by the river, its the other one on Surawong road.

By Khun_mor on Sunday, April 06, 2008 - 06:13 pm:  Edit

The Montien is NOT guest friendly despite, or perhaps because of, it's location right across the street from Patpong. Used to have big sign in the lobby that guests were not allowed in the rooms.

I will admit it's been 10 years or so since I have been inside the Montien but I doubt they would change their policy.

I can testify being caught at Montien. They charged me B1500 for girl who stayed overnight. The management refused to budge and even threatened to call the police if I didnt pay etc etc.
Dont bother with this hotel and besides who wants to stay near PP. Go out to Adelphi near Nana , much much better

After a lot of digging, I found my file on hotels in Bangkok, noted during my Oct 2007 visit.

A. New Hotels.

New hotels in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok in Oct 2007 with its listed lowest-price room in baht (B). The order of my list is my soi, starting with the soi closest to Soi Asoke (soi 21).

1. Sam's Lodge, Soi 19. www.samslodge.com. B1,000 net, single bed. B1,200 net, deluxe. Entrance through an alley. Reception desk on the second floor. Low ceiling over the stairs, so watch your head. No safety deposit box and no in-room safe, which is surprising when viewing the costly furnishings and modern bathroom. Small rooms. The building itself from the outside did not look new.

2. S15 Sukhumvit Hotel, near Soi 15. www.s15hotel.com Opened two months. Offers free wi-fi and available laptop. B3,700+ (promotion B3,050+). (+ means 7 % tax. Reception staff were not clear about where there was a 10 % service charge).

3. Sofitel condohotel under construction, Soi 15. www.europeancentralplace.com

4. Citi Chic Suites, Soi 13, www.citichichotel.com , info@citichic.com, 660-23452-3888. B2,500 net, Deluxe; B2,700, Deluxe with terrace.

5. www.citadines.com Soi 11. Apart hotel. Under construction, scheduled to open in 2008.

6. Cozy At Ten, Soi 10, www.cozyatten.com , cozyatten@hotmail.com, 02-653-3934-5. B1,200 net, Single, ; B1,400, Single with garden view, (same-sized room but with view of the park across the soi); B1,600, Twin with garden view. Carpeted large room. No elevator, about five-floor building.

7. Salil Hotel, Soi 8, across from Royal Asia Lodge. www.solilhotel.com Opened Sep 2007. B1,600 net, Superior; B1,800 net, Deluxe; includes breakfast. No elevator, walk-up, 5-story building. Queen-sized bed is 70% of room, wall-mounted LCD tv, brightly painted. Free yellow tuk-tuk to and from hotel to Sukhumvit during the day. About 10-minute plus walk from hotel to Sukhumvit on a roadway with no sidewalk.

8. www.citadines.com Soi 8. Apart hotel. Under construction, scheduled to open in 2008.

9. Ever Rich Inn. Sukhumvit, between Soi 5 and Soi 7, 02-253-4250, everrich_inn@yahoo.com. www.everrichinn.com B1,000 for room with single-sized bed; and B1,300 for full-size or queen-size bed. Both rooms I saw were the same size, but were small and thus not for a long stay. In-room safe, shower stall, electronic door lock, cold air conditioning, no view. Only oddity was a used table rather than a new table of a smaller size proportionate to the small room size. Visitor policy is an unknown.

B. Other hotels and rentals.

While going through my notes on hotels, I figured that I might as well list other hotels. This list is, by no means, complete. For example, my list does not include well-known hotels on Soi 4, such as Nana Hotel, Rajah Hotel, and Dynasty Inn. Soi 3 has a bunch of hotels, but arabs and africans seem to dominate the west side of the street up to Soi 5. The order of my list is by soi, starting with soi 4.

1 - Nana City Inn, Soi 4, nanacityinn@hotmail.com , 662-253-4468. B850. Safety deposit boxes at the reception counter. Carpeted room, no breakfast. Looks old.

2 - Swan 4 Hotel, 02-251-0931, no e-mail address, entrance through the bar. B800. Safety deposit boxes at the reception desk. No carpet. Small bathroom has the toilet in the front part, and basin next to the shower in the back part. Walk-up.

3 - Heidelberg Hotel, Soi 4, heidelberg.bkk@gmx.net, 66-02-252-2537-8. B1,850.

4 - Woraburi Sukhumvit Hotel, Soi 4, www.woraburi.com , rsvnsukhumvit@woraburi.com, 662-656-7236, ext 308. B1,200, Standard room, but its view was blocked by a nearby building; and B1,500, Superior room, which has a view and a bathtub. Safety deposit boxes at the reception counter. A sign in the hotel lobby said free tuk-tuk to NEP. Looks lower 3-star.

5 - SM Grande Residence, Soi 4, next to Omni Tower, smgrandresidence@yahoo.com, 0-2696-9000. B35,000 per month, Studio Deluxe, 50 square meters. Rate includes electricity, cable tv, housekeeping twice per week, gym, swimming pool, etc.. Minimum of one month rental, one-month deposit.

6 - Sukhumvit Crown Hotel, Soi 6, sukhumvitcrown@yahoo.com, 662-253-5672-4. B1,180 and B1,380. Young mean (maybe because I am straight) gay-looking guy at reception counter.

7 - Park Hotel, Soi 7, www.parkhotelbkk.com , 0-2255-4300. B2,000++, Single Standard; B2,200++, Twin/Double Standard; etc. (++ means 7% tax and 10% service charge.)

8 - Stable Lodge, Soi 8, www.stablelodge.com , hotel@stablelodge.com, 660-2653-0017-9. Standard, B1,295; Superior, B1,295; DeLuxe, B1,495; and B100 extra, Oct - Apr; plus 7% VAT. Safety deposit boxes at the reception counter, large room, small elevator.

9 - Promenade Hotel, Soi 8, promenade@psi_promenade.com, www. psi_promenade.com , 662-253-4116. B1,200 net. In-room key wooden box. Carpeted room. Looks newly refurbished. Building looks old.

10 - Siam Inn Guest House, Soi 8, siaminnguesthouse@hotmail.com. B1,100 net, B25,000 for month. Single key safe boxes (15) in open lobby next to stairs. King-sized bed is 70% of room, clean, nicely furnished. Indian guests?

11 - Ruamchitt Travelodge, Soi 10, rcbangkok@hotmail.com, 66-2-653-1314-7. Standard, B1,000 net; standard with garden view, B1,100, superior, B1,200; add B150 for American breakfast. Safety deposit boxes at the reception counter. Carpeted room. About 200 meters to Sukhumvit.

12 - Business, Inn, Soi 11 L-shaped alley (to Sukhumvit). Standard, B600; twin, B800; deluxe, B900. Small rooms, no refrigerator in standard room, carpeted, shower in front part of bathroom. Building looks very small. Reception counter was in separate building across the alley.

13 - Federal Hotel, Soi 11, www.federalbangkok.com , reservation@federalbangkok.com, 662-253-0175.

14 - Chaidee Mansion, Soi 11, www.chaidee-mansion.com , reservations@chaidee-mansion.com, 02-250-7200-3. B2,000 and B2,200.

15 - Sriratana Mansion, Soi 12, 02-229-4603-6. Furnished apartment, one-year minimum lease. B67,000 and up per month, B4 per unit for electricity, B1,000 per month for water, other charges for telephone and internet (cable tv was not listed). Advance payment and 2-month deposit.

16 - Royal President, Soi 15, www.royalpresident.com , enquiry@royalpresident.com, 662-253-9451. B3,800 daily or B49,000 per month, Studio, 30 square meters; B4,100 daily or B56,000 per month, Deluxe Studio, 41 sqm; B4,300 daily or B57,000 per month, Sapphire Suite, 56 sqm; etc. Rates include water, electricity, cable tv, gym, swimming pool, etc. Add 10% service charge to daily rates. Room cleaned daily and linen service is four times per week.

17 - Honey Hotel, Soi 19, honeyhtl_company@yahoo.co.th, 662-253-0646-9
