Playskool is the second bar on the right hand side of the ground level as you walk into Nana Plaza. It's a smaller bar, but one with better than average talent in terms of attractivness, at least from what we saw in November of 2001. The atmosphere also seemed better than many of the other Nana Plaza bars, as the girls seemed to enjoy themselves more there. In our two week stay, we saw two dance contests here. Playskool turned out to be my second favorite go-go at Nana Plaza.

On my last visit two years ago, there was a least one ladyboy working. I didn't see any in there this trip, although one of the waitresses was questionable.

Drinks were slightly on the expensive side at 110 baht for beers, $2.50 US.

By Mcdijj on Thursday, December 06, 2001 - 03:05 am:  Edit

When I walked into Playskool last sept I was soon confronted by a pair of very tall gogo's with adam's apples, boney wrists and deep voices who insisted that I examine their breasts very closely when I expressed some doubt as to their gender. This was while a crowd of shorter gogo's stood back a few feet and watched the show. Damn fine breasts as near as I could tell. However, I ended up bar fining at Voodoo that night and the next. So my vote (after two whole visits to NEP) is the Voodoo Gogo. Way in the back, far left corner (facing the rear) first floor. I'm sure that YMMV and the day of the week, phase of the moon and time of year all play into which is the hottest bar on any given night ... so, I plan on visiting many next time I am at NEP.

Playskool appears to be the most popular place in Nana Plaza, but maybe just appears that way because it is small. Some nice ladies in lineup., but I am not too fond of it because it has been too crowded recently and I like space.

By Yujin on Friday, May 24, 2002 - 10:17 pm:  Edit

Playskool and Voodoo are two of my favorite go-go clubs. Both of them are located on the ground floor. I don't know if there's a tiered pricing structure between the different floors, but those two ground floor clubs charge a bar fine of 600 baht. The upstairs clubs charge 500 baht.

(Based upon a visit in May 2002)

Did you see that super breasty girl at Voodoo at NEP circa May 2002? Wow, amazing 36C's with large nipples, but face wasn't much.... She's got like blondish hair and dances on the center highest stage toppless.

By Yujin on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 - 12:32 am:  Edit

Bingo,

I think I know who you're referring to. I saw her last year. When I saw her again this year, her appearance changed. It's quite obvious that she underwent some enhancement from plastic surgery. The skin on her face is also much clearer. She also had her eyelids worked on to give her a doe-eye look.

She's a very popular girl since she's always being barfined; however, I've been told by a reputable source (not me) that she isn't very good in bed, i.e, no passion, real mechanical. She was like that BEFORE the plastic surgery. I don't think the plastic surgeon fixed that problem. In the dark light of the go-go club, she does look like a hottie.

By Bingo on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 - 12:17 pm:  Edit

I passed her up the first time I went into that bar, only because a very long haired and wide hipped, pretty & nice lady, name forgotten, was sitting next to me, but those 36'c tits were a sight to behold on that lady. As I said, I didn't care too much for her face but the next day I had reconsidered and re-entered only to find she wasn't there and I never made it back to that bar during my somewhat brief stay of 10 days.... She didn't come across as spunky as some of the other girls. The bar is quite a show with three stages but truthfully, I didn't care too much for the bar.

I found out that Playskool is temporarily closed for some renovations. All the girls are at Hollywood a Go Go next door. Hollywood was rocking like never before, 2 dance stages and lots of girls.

They mad a great rebound and still have the best assemblance of young talent, along with Mandarin. I would say this is the best overall bar as they have a high turnover of young girls and the girls don't work here long enough to turn into robobabes.

By Kmanrox420 on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 - 03:45 am:  Edit

This bar was burnt down by a mysterious fire last month. Not to worry. It has re-opened and the inside is brand spankin new and the girls are still smokin hot!

By Travelsrr on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 - 01:30 pm:  Edit

Do the identical twins with the huge tits both still work there? I've done 'em both and I'd like to again soon!

By Bendejo on Saturday, November 27, 2004 - 02:45 am:  Edit

This place has a bunch of ugly old witches that are constantly fussing with either the girls or the customers. Really fucking annoying. I was in there with a buddy the other night and one old bag with a nightmare of a face insisted on standing, facing the audience, watching whatever the girls were doing, waiting for empty glasses to be put down etc. That mug certainly offset any fond visions from the stage. There's at last six of these harpies.
Even scarier still is they wear numbers!

By Travelsrr on Saturday, November 27, 2004 - 06:30 pm:  Edit

But there is some fine talent. See the pix in my trip report from last month. I left with 5 from in there.

By Athos on Sunday, May 15, 2005 - 11:43 pm:  Edit

I liked Playskool, decent selection, not on par with the Rainbows but vibes were good. Regret not selecting any girl at 9:30 pm.

By Don Marco on Sunday, October 09, 2005 - 01:46 pm:  Edit

Dead, but there were perhaps two cute girls here, so I walked in. I'm not sure what the waitress was thinking, but she slapped down a redbull in front of me (i.e. I didn't order it). I got up to leave and the mamasan/waitress gave me a little shit because I had refused to pay for a drink that I didn't order. I think I was the only customer in the place...

IMX will hopefully straighten out the place and put some raunch back in the mix.

BREAKING NEWS! Play Skool will start a new manager this Friday 14th Oct. The new manager will be Club Hombre's Ironmanx02 and I would like to wish him all the best. Ironmanx02 is a good host and is a VERY experienced monger. Ironmanx02 has managed both MANDARIN and HOLLYWOOD TWO. Exciting news, swing by and pay him a visit. Great guy, you won't be disappointed!

By Dave_the_rave on Tuesday, May 02, 2006 - 04:14 am:  Edit

PLAYSKOOL has really improved. I agree with Mano's observations that he recently wrote in "Chat." They have new, sexy girls who dance topless and they are currently doing some hot, erotic shows too. With PRETTY LADY closed they are reaping the rewards. Well worth a voyeur visit! Two thumbs and something else straight up!

By Mano_poderosa on Monday, July 03, 2006 - 03:49 am:  Edit

What Dave said. Good lineup of dancers. Very attentive service staff. Primarily rock and roll music. One of the better bars in NaNa, right now.

By Dave_the_rave on Monday, July 17, 2006 - 06:21 am:  Edit

PLAY SKOOL still going strong. GREAT rock music, none of this trashy techno that you have to suffer in the RAINBOWS. They feature topless Dancers and they have a large number of girls too. I agree with Mano that PLAY SKOOL is once again one of the best bars around. Good alternative to PRETTY LADY while they are closed.

By Mano_poderosa on Sunday, October 01, 2006 - 05:04 am:  Edit

This bar has rapidly evolved into one of my favorites, if not my very favorite, in NaNa plaza. A very strong lineup of girls/Enjoyable rock music played at levels that don't shatter eardrums/Friendly attentive staff/One stage of girls that dance topless equals a damned good formula. This has been a consistently good venue for over 6 months now, and I give it a very high recommendation.

Is Ironmanx still there? If so, give him my best.

DM, he's been gone for quite awhile. To my knowledge he no longer manages any local bar. I'm not even sure if he still lives in Bangkok. The last I saw him was several months ago, when I bumped into him on Walking Street in Pattaya.

That would explain why the rock music was not ear splitting. When DM and I went there IMX actually believed guys went into bars for the music. You could not hear yourself think .
Then again he had no girls on stage better than a 4 so all he had was the music. I guess you could not blame him for his opinion.

Good to hear Play Skool is making a comeback. Was once a fun bar loaded with spinners. The more good bars the better for business in all the bars in NEP.

By Dave_the_rave on Monday, October 02, 2006 - 05:41 am:  Edit

Ironmanx was released by the Boss of Play Skool a long time ago. IMX is currently in the USA, but should return to LOS some time soon. On a "three strikes you're out" rule, IMX probably realises that his bar management days are numbered. It is an extremely tough business, I've seen them all come and go over the best part of a decade. Ironically, among a long line of ex-managers one of my other nicknames is "Last Man Standing!"

"When DM and I went there IMX actually believed guys went into bars for the music"

KM, I personally enjoy decent tunes while I'm in a bar. No, not ear splitting tho-- I've been there and done that :-)

IMX had some fuglies to work with and tried to make it a little more festive by trying to make it a party stop-- drinks, music, and toy with some ho's. I think it was a good idea, although I'm not sure how he did on the execution. I, like KM, don't notice much unless there's some eye candy on stage. Regardless, it must be a tough fall from grace going from managing a nana bar to going back to the USA! I feel his pain.

By Mano_poderosa on Tuesday, October 03, 2006 - 04:40 am:  Edit

No disrespect to IMX, who I knew personally, but the revitalization of Playskool has occurred, to my eyes at least, almost entirely in his absence.

By Dave_the_rave on Wednesday, October 04, 2006 - 05:42 pm:  Edit

Manos, what you say is so true. IMX was told not to change anything. He went in changed the rock music to obscure dance, changed the dancers outfits, and was then promptly fired. He had just suffered the same fate at Hollywood earlier. Experienced friends gave him advice, but you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink! IMO Play Skool still has a long way to go. It is a very "hit or miss" bar - some nights they are busy, but at many times there is a limited number of hotties and only a handful of customers. Many guys tell me the same thing.

By Mano_poderosa on Thursday, October 05, 2006 - 04:57 am:  Edit

Granted, Playskool doesn't boast the nightly crowds of, say, Rainbow I, IV or Angelwitch. And I have been in there on nights when it was fairly dead. But on good nights, and there seem to be more of them than the bad ones, it compares very favorably with the other top NaNa venues. Plus, even when it is relatively crowded, you can almost always get a comfortable seat, as opposed to having to sit around the stage.

Sorry to say Manos, that you visit very infrequently and we know of too many horror stories. No management, no customer care, no atmosphere, etc. The BG's may be topless but Play Skool are a long way behind the talent of the top bars like the Rainbow bars. The owner has much bigger vested interests in other bars he owns, so who is watching the store?

Apparently, me!

By Dave_the_rave on Saturday, October 07, 2006 - 06:25 pm:  Edit

To be fair Play Skool has definitely loaded up on BG's. A friend of the Boss told me that they have a good number of BG's. The burning question is - How many would you barfine?

By Mano_poderosa on Sunday, October 08, 2006 - 04:08 am:  Edit

This is a very good question, Dave. As you know, I am one of the pickiest sons-a-bitches around when it comes to barfining Thai women. My tastes are ridiculously specific. If I walk into a bar and their are two girls on stage that I would consider taking, I think the lineup is outstanding. Most places I go there is not a single woman that I'd actually consider paying for. Understanding that criteria, by my standards the lineup at Playskool is pretty damned good. Two really attractive women and one or two who are close borderline calls. When you couple this with decent music and a friendly staff, I really rate this place.

Manos.

By Dave_the_rave on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 - 04:45 am:  Edit

Hi Manos, I agree that Play Skool has definitely made a great return. So many go-go bars are only average at best these days. Being topless is another great advantage and they are a ground level bar with an excellent location. P-S also pay the highest salaries in BKK, namely 12,000 TB per Dancer. They are certainly holding their own against their neighbours Rainbow 1 and Rainbow 2. It is reported that P-S currently have 80+ Dancers. For good rock music in NEP you are looking at Angelwitch and Play Skool as the best two options.

By Dave_the_rave on Sunday, October 15, 2006 - 01:59 am:  Edit

I saw Stickman on Friday night, he checked out Play Skool and said it was totally DEAD! He also said that there were not many girls. Sounds like the Bosses friend was grossly hyping the place. Like I said this place is very hit or miss. OK to pop in for a drink but don't hold your breath!

NB. Remember this was just after Stickman had left a busy Angelwitch on a peak Friday evening.

By Blazers on Sunday, October 15, 2006 - 10:23 am:  Edit

Why does anyone even listen to a guy like Stickman. Let's see....he doesnt barfine girls, he's married to a local thai girl, is a dead broke English teacher , and doesnt go to the bars for anything other than to see if the music is too loud, talk to the managers, bullshit with the expats, and check for the price of beer or if there is free food.

I think the scene has just passed him by and he just tries to relive glory days that no longer exist. His site is well constructed but I would listen to a monkey befoe listening to him about Thailand advice as it relates to the bar scene.

By Don Marco on Sunday, October 15, 2006 - 02:36 pm:  Edit

I concur with Blazers regarding his bar opinions. Stick man should "stick" to telling stories around the virtual campfire about an expat living in LoS and leaving the fucking story telling to us real men.

By Dave_the_rave on Sunday, October 15, 2006 - 04:10 pm:  Edit

Well, I do know Stickman's website is the number one of its kind in the world. He has a massive readership (20,000-30,000 weekly readers) and although I certainly don't agree with everything he writes, I do know him personally.

Stickman tends to be spending a lot of time in Pattaya these days, so his column is heavily slanted towards Pattaya's nightlife.

I know Don Marco and Blazers and I have to agree that you guys have a point about the mongering side of the equation. This I have to agree with.

By Mano_poderosa on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 05:53 am:  Edit

I'm probably beating a dead horse, here. But, I'm in Play Skool once or twice every week, and have been for quite some time. I don't have any idea who the owner is, so whatever hype he may be putting out has no influence on my opinion. In point of fact, other than that coming from myself, I haven't heard any hype about this place. As a punter, I really like the place. And, from a punter's perspective only, whether they are making as much money as other bars in Nana Plaza is totally irrelevant to whether or not I like going in there. I like going to Hollywood Carousel, as well, and they aren't pulling in the same jack as Rainbow I, II, IV or Angelwitch, either.

As to the music question, other than Play Skool and Angelwitch, you can almost always count on good music at DC 10. Alas, you can never, ever count on good looking women, there. Strangely, the last time I was in Rainbow IV, about a week ago, I stayed for two drinks and they played nothing but rock, including, incredibly, a very good cut from Soul Asylum. This didn't seem to discourage the Japanese crowd, either. Maybe the times they are-a-changin' at RBIV. That being said, I'm still not a big fan of the overall factory atmosphere of that place...

Manos.

By Dave_the_rave on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 - 02:55 am:  Edit

Hey Manos, I am sure us vets can all remember when Play Skool, Pretty Lady and the Hollywood's were truly excellent bars, but those days are sadly gone. Even from a mongering perspective these bars are merely shadows of what they once were. IMO only Angelwitch and the Rainbows have moved forward during tough times. Sad but true. What is true is that the Rainbows and Angelwitch are the only consistently popular bars, so they must be doing a lot right. You like Play Skool which is fine, but I never hear any rave reviews for what a great bar it is.

By Walkingdude on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 - 07:45 pm:  Edit

Late night here was slow given it was Valentine's day. Perhaps one would have to show up earlier to get a better selection of the girls. Last night didn't have too many girls dancing but a couple cuties mixed in. As usual for Playschool some decent music was on last night.

i've been here a few times. they seem to have three types of ladies. the A team, the B team, and the 'freelancers'. they'll put the A team on the stage with the freelancers and then B team comes up. so if you come in when the B team is up there, you'll be aghast. UGLY.

the freelancers are hot. usually two or three of them. i say freelancer as they don't have to work every night like most go go gals. maybe call them the coyote dancers that you CAN barfine versus some of the coyote dancers at soi cowboy bars that you CAN'T bar fine. these girls are usually there thurs-sat, other nights if money is tight.

one girl i met was named 'love' and another one was 'sunny'. not sure if that is the correct spelling but i remember laughing at their names. i'm in thailand with love and sunny ? what happened to noi and nok ? love was a fantastic choice.
