The following TripReport snippet is taken from 2003/12 Merlin - Spending the Holidays In Cambodia

SHARKEY this was also a favorite for me. A lot of expat regulars mixed in with a bunch of European and American “tourists”. Great bar set up, the bar encircles the liquor area and has lots of stools and sitting rooms. Food is excellent here. Pool tables galore also and they play some great music. Again, the girl to guy ratio was 3-1 on most nights with some very fine looking girls. LT was $20.00, no short time area but it was 2 blocks from my hotel (Hawaii) so didn't see a need for short time.

Walk up the stairs and you are confronted with a veyr large bar that reminds me of the chain bar/restaurants you see in the U.S. This place has to be owned by an outsider. There is a large bar in the middle surrounded by wooden tables with high chairs and shorter tables for 4 or people. There are a couple of pool tables by the bathroom and a balcony outside with some tables and chairs.

The beer is very cheap and there is a happy hour every night where Angkor draft beer is $1. Every night has drink specials for $1. I will discuss every nights specials in my report. The girls here are a mix of Viet and Khmer and not anywhere near the quality of girls at Martini. The girls usually will want to go to a Khmer disco or Karaoke place with you once you have determined the price ($15-20) If you want long time, you must qualify it with the girl as almost all of the Khmer girls have local boyfriends and want to go home early. The Viet girls will stay all night as they rarely have local boyfriends and your hotel is nicer than where they stay.

I should also note that the food here is quite good and you pay about $2 for appetizers and $3-5 for entrees. It's mostly bar food but its quite good.

I like the place in principal. The music was not to loud and it should have been a good place to have a few drinks. The food was good as well and there were beautiful woman everywhere. Sounds perfect but..... from the moment I pulled up to the bar I was set upon by a very aggressive pack of ugly old whores. They wouldn't go away. One was always trying to get me to take her to Heart of Darkness. I eventually said "GO AWAY!" which was responded to by "Why you no happy? You no like me?" I just said "LEAVE ME ALONE!" and she finally went away. Problem solved? No. Another ugly old whore started rubbing my back 30 seconds later. ........"Go away!"............"why you don't like me?"......."Leave me alone I only like young women?"......."OK, I get friend for you"......."your friend is ugly to, If I see lady I like I will tell her, go away"........"which lady you like?"......."Not you!"........"Why you know happy?"........"Because you won't leave me alone".......ugly whore leaves and another approaches..........


Finally I grabbed a very nice, young, shy looking lady. She was acting very shy and reeled me in. I ask her very specifically how much to spend the entire night "until morning" in my hotel. She quoted $20. I specifically repeated "all night?" she said yes, so I agreed. She ask If I wanted her friend too. Her friend wasn't quite as hot but was OK so I agreed. Off we went.

They both gave me an absolutely outstanding session. It was great. Then they jumped up and started getting dressed. I said wait a minute, we agreed to all night "until morning". The first girl I chose said they were hungry and needed to eat. I agreed and said hurry back. Then she ask for money. I said tomorrow morning just like we agreed. She ask again for the money. Her friend passively kept getting dressed. Then I snapped and switched moods real quick and yelled at her why does she agree to something in the club when she does not intend to carry it out in the hotel. She still ask for the money and would not answer why she expected it now when she had agreed to all night in the club. Her friend who had been quiet all this time but was dressing, instantly started stripping down and jumped in bed and got all lovey dovey and sweet but the other girl set on a chair and silently pouted. I was pissed by now but figured fuck that bitch. The money is already in the safe tonight. You want any, wait until tomorrow. I shut off the lights and snuggled up with her friend who was the most loving bundle of cuddles you could possibly imagine. After me and her friend made out for about 10 minutes the other girl finally crawled into bed on the opposite side from me with her friend between us. I ignored her and had the most wonderful time with her friend. I fucked her friend a couple of more times that night and again in the morning. When it was time to leave. I payed her friend $30. A $10 tip. Then bitch girl who wanted to argue, I paid $10 and told her she only gave me short time so I only paid her for short time. She just sulked and put up little argument at that point. She knew she fucked up. I also ask her friend for her cell phone # which she excitedly gave (since I had just paid her $30 for a session). My real intent was to make the bitch girl loose face in front of her friend over trying to run out on me. It really pissed me off because I was so specific in the club there was no possibility for misunderstanding.

Anyways Sharkeys "could" be good. Maybe I'll try it again but I don't see it on my main destinations list.

Real men like you make up for the dipshits who let girls get away with this shit. Some will say you were being cruel with these girls but they were the ones trying to fuck you(or at least one of them was). I am assuming they were Khmer girls and they have some hardcore, abusive boyfriends who want them back after the short time so they always try to say yes to whatever you say and then reneg later. Not to me...I will send them on their way with $5. Short time is $5 and LT is $20...take your pick honey. I have now placed you in the kingdom of mongerland and alone at the throne....thanks for your great stories.

Great way to handle the bitch. You may want to complain to the manager at Sharkeys about this next time you're there. I agree with you that it's a good place to hang and shoot the breeze, but not the best place to trawl for the girls, many hardened girls there. The only other place I would warn about is Choup Tep street girls who try to bail early also.

The same thing that happened to Sancho happened to me on the first night I was in Cambodia at Sharkey's, it really pissed me off. Thanks for the input.

Nice place, Large bar with a couple pool tables. Have a balcony and fans to cool the place. Started picking up after 9pm open till 3am.

Quality of girls ranged from 2-8. Saw a possible 9. The aggresive girls are of course the uglier ones. Many to choose from in a bar enviroment. Like the Del-Ray in San Jose CR without the gambling.

I got talking to a vietnamese girl at sharkys who ask me if i would like to go with her 20 year old sister, so i ask her why her sister was not freelancing herself, "because one of us has to look after our mother".
So "ok" i follow her leading me outside of sharkys, we gets to a street corner were she has some food from a vender, she then starts shouting across the street for her sister to come out and meet me from there home,
so i takes 20 year old sister to my hotel, her looks was ok, but had a nice body and her fun-pillows was larger than the usual vietnamese breast.
at one point i was on the bed playing with her pussy whilst i watched TV, she started to sleep as i played with her honey pot, only when i stopped playing with her that she suddenly woke up,
The last bit interested me, i have listened to music that has sent me to sleep, only to suddenly wake up when the music finishes.

Very little talent lately. Not really worth climbing the stairs unless you crave some Nachos. More and more backpackers, not fun.

I remember that 20 year old Vietnamese in PP, I met her and her sister again in martini's, she must be in he late 20s now. I thought sharky's shut 3 in the morning; I'm sure it's not a 24 hour bar like the LA.

A couple of years ago Sharky Bar was a very good place for FL, especially for Vietnamese. I think they close around 1 am now. But lately there are very few if any.
The place here that is like LA Cafe would be Walkabout, all FL and open 24 hours. Martini is a lot better, but not 24 hours.
The main mongering here is the hostess bars. I'm going to wild guess and say around 50 of them?

Sharky is mentioned in 2008/08 Flyngo in Phnom Penh...Better Than Ever!

Big Mike Hsu who owned sharky has passed away,RIP other than that as far as I know sharkys is still open.

This week stickman talked about the sharky bar which is still running, Darryl Paxton is running the bar after Big mike past away,it's now celebrating its 21 year in business.

There's music videos on Mondays,8 and 9 ball competitions​ are on Wednesday and Sundays, wheel of fortune on Thursdays, live bands Friday and Saturday nights and open mic on Sundays.

Popular night is Friday when they do the joker draw having said all that Darryl is in the process of selling the bar so hopefully the new owners will keep up the great atmosphere there.

Above picture's: sharkys has has been sold and bought again. Been refurbished, bands still play there, don't know if theres hostess girls.
