I understand that the #1 hotel in BKK is the Nana Hotel, but it is a dump.

Are there other hotels that are affordable, and are suitable for mongering?

By Yoosin on Friday, January 19, 2001 - 02:56 pm:  Edit

Grand President fro 2-3 days or more.

I have also stayed at the Amari Boulevard cost is in the $60's. But They don't seem to like bringing girls back to much. I saw the guy at the elevator sending another dude back to the desk with his girl.

Forgetting for a moment hotels that discourage bringing girls back to your room, what's the scoop on the Majestic Suites and the Grand President: rates, quality of the rooms, and availability?

By Ezgab on Friday, January 19, 2001 - 03:56 pm:  Edit

I have been to all the hotels mentioned although I have not stayed at the Majestic suites. My favorite in terms of value is Dynasty, which is located across the street from the Nana hotel. The Grand President has the best rooms, but I think is the most expensive. The worst is the Nana hotel. I will never stay there again.

Of the two, Majestic or Dynasty, which one is a better deal? Do they both allow guests without hassles? Visited Majestic's web page (impressive). Do they require a CC to hold reservation for mid-day arrival? Hey El Blanco, how much better are the 1200/night rooms over the 900/night rooms? TIA.

Greetings from Thailand. Salsa Boy. Try the Majestic. Book on-line if possible. A link is provided above. When are you coming?

The only hotel thats close to a 4 star in the Nana area is the JW Marriott on Soi 2 Sukhumvit Rd. Guest friendly, best deal I've heard of is $60.00 USD/night. Here's the link, but you might do better using a travel agent.

I'm leaving for BKK in 28hrs.

Frozin1...you lucky soon of a gun!! :-) Harold Johnson,(do you live in Thailand?) i hope to make my trip in April or May. I will try and get some info on the Majestic and also the Marriot. I would like to go for a week and will going solo. As an avid reader of hustlers "Asian Fever" i try to keep up-dated with the latest information and recommandations...clubs, but there hasn't been any hotel info referenced lately. It's either Bangkok or Angles city...and Thailand is in the lead..mainly because of safety...i guess. thanks agin guys!

I can't remember the uRL but there used to be an on-line travel agency in Bangkok that had access to apartments and small hotels that were cheap. Some of the asian web sites may help.

By Scooter on Sunday, March 04, 2001 - 03:06 am:  Edit

Hey guys - a quick note on hotels in the Nana area. The Marriot is not always guest friendly and I have seen them deny guys from bringing girls to thier room. The Nana is hit and miss, if you can get a room on the top floor your ok, these are nicer rooms with balconies, I stayed there a few weeks ago because the Dynasty was full. Also they take reservations over the net without a credit card so if you are winging it make a reservation there just in case other hotels in the area are full (they tend to be on the weekends. I prefere the Dynasty its close to NEP and is a step above the Nana. Also in Pattaya avoid The Welcome Plaza, Grand Jomtien Beach hotel is nice but a ways from the action. If you want to be in the thick of things The Penthouse is a interesting place to stay, great service, they clean your room and change bedding anytime you like, and it is realy set up for the 'Sex tourist'. Any other questions on BKK or Pattaya let me know as I have spent allot of time there lately.

Thaimarkets.com has $10 rooms and travel info. They will make travel arraingements from cheap ($2 rooms to $60) to expensive. Nice site.

What's the deal on getting into the Omni or Majestic in BKK without a reservation?

Is it possible to get in without a reservation?

By Harold_Johnson on Sunday, March 04, 2001 - 09:03 pm:  Edit

Salsa Boy,

No. I'm just visiting (from LA). Getting into most of the NEP area hotels on weekends is nearly impossible (if not impossible) without prior reservations. Trust me. It cost nothing in most cases (no CC info needed) and can save you some headaches. I would recommend Dynasty or Majestic at around 1000 and 1200B/night. Exchange is currently 43.20B/$1. Hey Frozin1, when you arrive in BKK (local time)? ezgab arrives 3/9 i think. Lets meet up if you're interested.

Salsa Boy,

The JW Marriott is not usuually good for bringing women back to the rooms. I have also stayed at the Amari Boulevard which is on Soi 5 only about 1 1/2 blocks from Nana Plaza. However the Amari is alos not great for bringing girls back.

On my next trip I plan to try out the Grand President which is well know for allowing monger activities.

By El_Blanco on Monday, March 05, 2001 - 06:44 pm:  Edit

I just came back from Thailand. I met a monger from New Jersey who stayed at the Ambassador. He paid 1,200 baht a night for a double room, including the daily buffet breakfast. He had no trouble bringing girls to his room. I stayed at the Royal Asia Lodge on Sukhumvit Soi 8 for 890 baht per night, no breakfast.

I am leaving for Bangkok this Thursday I hope. I plan on staying at the Hilton hotel for a night and then stay at a friends house for a few days before going to Phuket with her. The Hilton is located on Wireless road, about 1.5 miles form Nana plaza. I stay there because it is gratias. I think it runs about 130+ a night. Their are no problems with guests

$130 USD a night!?!?!? Ouch.

I'm no authority (haven't even visited Thailand [yet]), but I've learned two things reading about Bangkok:

1) $130 per night is too much for a hotel (granted, it is a nice hotel, but still...)

2) Prices often get jacked up when you make a reservation. One of the tricks used by travelers is to only reserve for the first night, then find a different hotel the next day. Often (not always, of course, but often) you will get a much better rate, and you shouldn't have a problem finding another room unless you go during one of their holidays.

It has been posted here before, but an invaluable site for Thailand information is http://board.thaipussy.nu:8080/~3/guests.

By Frozin1 on Friday, March 30, 2001 - 10:27 pm:  Edit

Just a few comments.

I know more than a few mongers that stay at the Marriot and none have ever mentioned any problems with bringing girls back, you can even avoid the front desk if you use the side entrance.

The Omni is very nice and is more a 'serviced apartment' than a hotel. This is where I stayed on my last trip and a very good deal at about 1800 BHT/night. The one bedroom suite is huge with full kitchen and user-selectable PIN in-room safe. Most likely no problem getting a room without reservations except during high season. Laundromat on the 8th floor and a very nice pool as well. No problem with visitors. Short walk to Nana, about 40 BHT to Cowboy by metered taxi.

If you get time, check out the Century plaza, last time I stayed there, ( about 3 years ago when it was just open) I booked my room at the counter just outside customs in the airport ( in bkk).

really, really nice room with breakfast buffett included for about $45 a nite. no hassell ( even though I expected it, being that it was such a nice place) bringing back "friends"

I think there are some bargins to be had at the booking counter in the airport.

I used to think it would be Big bux, as a last minute thing to do, but have had good luck there and at the counter in phuket also.

Are you a newbie to Thailand? If you are, I recommend MAjestic Suites because of its location and quality. The room is very small though and it's not a suite.

Other places like the Grand President chain or Omni are excellent in the 1200 baht + range.

What price range are you interested in?

I went to Thailand a couple of times in the Sept timeframe and it's pretty slow. I remember going to Pattaya during a weekday and the ratio of girls to guys is around 12:1. Most bars don't have a single customer. Nonetheless, the top go-go bar (e.g. happy, super baby) are doing pretty good business.

In BKK, Sept is pretty slow too during the weekday. During the weekend, the expats came out to play and NEP, for example, are more busy.

It does rain in Sept though.

thanks

I went last September and stayed at the Amari Boulevard, about 2 blocks from NEP and 7/8 blocks from Clinton Palza. The Amari is a Nice Hotel but they don't really like you bringing women in and would probably charge you extra for a guest.
i guess I was lucky because I spent a week in BKK and a week in Phuket and had no rain at all.
Had 1 or 2 girls per day, god I can't wait to visit this place again!!!

Yoosin,

I know what you mean.

BTW, don't overlook the Dynasty Inn.

By Ezgab on Thursday, May 17, 2001 - 10:26 pm:  Edit

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine from Thailand and she said that it has been raining for the last few days.

The Dynasty hotel is a good hotel for the money. It is also hassle free which I can't say for the Nana hotel.

By Yujin on Saturday, May 26, 2001 - 05:31 am:  Edit

I'd like to add another "vote" for the Dynasty Inn. This is my second trip to Bangkok in less than 14 months. During my first trip, I stayed a the Nana Hotel. What a DUMP, but it's in a good location. So for my second trip, I again made reservation at the Nana Hotel. This time I asked for a better room at 1,300 baht per night. I checked in at around 1 a.m. I laid on the bed and it sagged in the middle. There's no way that I'm going to be able to sleep on that mattress. I go down stairs, explain the problem to the desk clerk, and ask for a new room. I'm told the hotel is "full," but to check in the morning after check-out by other guests. I agree. At about 2:00 p.m. the next day, I again explain the problem and ask for a new room. The answer is "NO - hotel full." I knew that this was a bunch of crap since I overhead someone inquire at the desk if they had any rooms available, and the desk clerk said "yes." I guess I could have made a scene, but I decided to let my feet do the walking. I checked out and into the Dynasty Inn. The Dynasty Inn is just as close to the NEP as the Nana Hotel. It's also much cheaper (less than 1,000 baht per night AFTER taxes) and much much cleaner. The rooms have floor-to-ceiling teak veneer wall paneling, refrigerator, cable TV and a cassette boom box. A nice touch is artwork on the walls and green plants in a vase. The only "green plant" that I ever found in the Nana Hotel was mold growing on the bathroom tile. When I checked in at the Dynasty, they had pulled up the hallway carpet to clean. I don't think they've ever done any serious cleaning or remodels at the Nana Hotel since they're always "full." If you decide to stay at the Nana Hotel and as you lay in your bed, think about all the years of cum that have accumulated on the walls, carpet, furnishing, mattress, etc. If you find a pubic hair, is it yours or some long ago guest.

The Dynasty Inn is guest friendly. The desk clerks are much friendlier. The only downside is that it has no swimming pool. There is also no free buffet breakfast, but you're paying less per night which makes up for it.

I have stayed at the Nana several times and except for my last stay there has always been a hassle there... the only thing it has going for it is location and Angels Disco. If you do have to stay there try to get a room on the top floor over looking the NEP/City, these rooms have balconys and make for a great place to take pictures. On my last trip my last night in BKK I had a little fun on that balcony with a hottie from the NEP, I was actually really suprised she was game to go for it out there in public. My next trip to BKK I am staying at the Dynasty on recomendations from the board.

Salsa Boy, I spent the second week of my trip on my own and it was no sweat. I felt safer in Bangkok at 3am than I did in New Orleans at the same time.

About the only advice I would give ANY guy going to Thailand is not to get too drunk. You probably won't get mugged, but you might wake up with someone who isn't what you remembered.

As for Pattaya, haven't been there yet, but the guys i've talked to who have, rave about it. Go there and if you hate it, you can always bail out and head back to bangkok.

That's the real beauty of thailand...you have all the options.

Enjoy...Green with envy.

Ptom

By Frozin1 on Saturday, June 23, 2001 - 11:24 pm:  Edit

Salsa,

You will have no problems in the tourist areas. The advice about not being too drunk and walking around after 2 am is valid. Your greatest risk will be from katoey pickpockets that often work in pairs (one grabs your cock the other your wallet). I never carry a wallet or passport with me and if I'm too drunk I'll take a taxi (meter) back to the hotel. All in all BKK is one of the safer citys in the world with good hobby activitys. Same goes for Pattaya, on beach road between walking street and Soi Pattayaland 2 is where the katoeys and pickpockets hang out late at night waiting for shitfaced prey. If you're with a girl they usually pay you no mind.

Salsa Boy,

Would be great if you could make it. I will be buying the plane tickets for my two other monger friends tomorrow. I figured out that the only way to get cheap fares from Bangkok to Manila is to buy them there in Thailand. I full fare ticket on Thai Airways is only $278 R/T... which means I should be able to get a discounted fare for about $200.00. As far as hotels - looks like it will be the Majestic Suites in Bangkok. The Penthouse Hotel in Pattaya. The Orchid Inn in Angeles City. I just can't wait... (prog)

How come nobody has mentioned the Ruamchitt Plaza? The Thermae is in the basement and it's next door to Clinton Plaza. Nana is an easy walk and Soi Cowboy isn't far either. Lots of places to eat, shop etc. right there! quite comfortable rooms for 900 Baht (Internet rate). A little older, but rooms are large, there's a fridge and TV and i've never lacked hot water. Obviously they welcome guests and it's very secure including free security box in vault by front desk). For $23 a night USD I love it.

By Bingo on Wednesday, May 01, 2002 - 04:55 pm:  Edit

I second the nod for the Dynasty Inn over the Nana Hotel, generally 50B cheaper and the rooms are nicer/cleaner. Main drawback is there is a lot of action in the Nana Hotel Lobby, girls coming and going all the time. Warning: make a reservation before going, these places are both very popular, so don't expect to arrive and think they'll have a vacancy for you. I've learned this the hard way.

By Bingo on Wednesday, May 01, 2002 - 04:59 pm:  Edit

Bangkok in the Nana area is safe, but if you are walking from there to Thermae Cafe, be on guard for Ladyboys who will hit you up with smiles and frisky hands, they are after your wallet. Best bet is to not make eye contact with them and to quickly have your hands up to fend them off. Other than that, this is a safe area to walk around, even late at night. Of course, you should take the normal precautions not to flash expensive jewelry or have massive amounts of cash on you.

For 1800 baht you can can a one bedroom apartment at Omni and it looks like a brand new condo with a view. The room has a living room with multiple couches and a tv and your bedroom has a couch, large bed and tv. No to mention, a huge walk in closet and kitchen. The furniture and room is ultra-modern. Oh yeah, it takes a key card to even access the elevators..very safe. You can bring as many girls as you want without question. 1800 at Majestic? That place has absolutely the smallest rooms in BKK. The walk-in closet at the Omni will be bigger than your room at the Majestic. The most overrated hotel in BKK. I have stayed at both. Go to the Omni web site and the site gives a panoramic view of the rooms. If you want to pay less, then order the suite at Omni without the living room or Stay at another hotel.

Just a couple of comments. In BKK, I've stayed at the MS, the Manhattan, and the Taipan. MS has got the location and nice bathtubs, but rooms are tiny and noisy since it is right on Sukhumvit. The Manhattan is nicer, larger rooms, though try to make sure you get a room with a double/king bed as opposed to two singles. They gave me one of the latter last time, so I pushed the two singles together and asked the maid to lay on king sheets -- worked like a charm. My last stay was at the Taipan. Best experience so far, three-star-plus class with large rooms, nice furniture, good restaurant, excellent service. On Soi 23, so not as convenient, but stumbling distance from Soi Cowboy and a short cab ride from NEP, etc. I would go back to the Taipan if I visit again. By the way, try Siamonline.com. Best rates for the Manhattan and Taipan that I've found (950/1040 baht), and very responsive. No secure server for reservations, so you have to fax in a credit card number, but Khun Wannipa is very quick on the e-mail to confirm everything. Both Manhattan and Taipan are guest-friendly if you book a double.

Guys,
I just stayed at the Majestic and it was *not* a very good experience.

1) The "free" breakfast they offer is a rip-off. Small glass of diluted orance juice with 2 small pieces of fruit. I used to go over to the Nana Hotel for breakfast buffet (150 Baht).
2) The walls of the Majestic are very thin. A gringo was staying on the *opposite* side of my room and I could hear him banging his chick at night. Hell, I could even tell what position she was getting into by the noises etc....
3) Room service is very poor. Food is awful and takes a long time to be delivered.
4) Room size is small and is cramped by BKK standards.

I am going to stay at the Dynasty Inn or Grand President next time.

Sorry Bkk! I'll try to be quieter next time. You forgot to mention that the whole place also stunk from the painting they were doing.
I never even bothered with their breakfast vouchers. We made the mistake of ordering room service one night and it was really dreadful.
BTW, the best breakfast in BKK is the buffet as the Marriott Cafe. 6-10:30am Its a bit pricey at about 550 baht, but well worth it.
