Just spent 16 days in Costa Rica[Nov./Dec '01], 12 nights in the Morazon. Recommend it highly.
The newly remodeled rooms are quite nice with large new TVs. The baths are huge[although they did manage to screw things like the water handles up in a tipicaly Latin way]. Lots of large towels.
It's only a block away from the B.M. and the staff was great. $35 plus the tax.

I was in San Jose about ten days ago at the Presidente. Couldn't believe the lack of progress on the bar they have been building for several months now, still hammering away.
I got a surprise when I opened the drawer in the desk in the room, a whole bunch of printouts of Clubhombre posts! It seemed to me there were lots more cops on the streets than during my previous trip, maybe they are cracking down on street crime.

is there a chica fee?

By Keemo on Tuesday, December 18, 2001 - 04:39 pm:  Edit

I spent 3 nights at the Morazon in mid-November and paid a $5 fee once, but the night manager waived it after that. Different nights too. Not sure if that is the standard policy, but that was my experience.

I stopped by the Morazon the other day and asked about the $35.00 rooms mentioned. They told me that deal is over.

There should be no guest fee at the Morazan. I've stay several times and was never charge for a guest fee, and have never heard of anyone being charged. If you did, then the front desk person must have pocketed the money. I've just got back from CR about two weeks ago and will be going back for the July 4th weekend.

If you gamble a little bit, you can get $33.00/night rate. I have a friend who is a big gambler who make reservation for me for this rate. I'm not a big gambler but I occasionally play for fun or just to kill some time and at the same time get a lower rate for the room. I used to stay at the Delrey and the Presidente but now I prefer the Morazan.

Dino,

The Hotel Morazan is my favorite over the years. Don't confuse it with Casa Morazan (Bed/Breakfast in the barrio, which had to unlock the door the for me and was considerably more expensive) as I did during an earlier visit.

Last stayed at Hotel in June 2002. There was no guest charge. They had two different room charges; without breakfast was $32-33, while with breakfast was $42. Since I don't always eat breakfast and occasionally like to splurge on the buffet at Del Rey, I chose the lower rate.

Hey Bookie,

How should I ask for the "gambler's" rate?

Thanks,
Dan

Here is direct phone/fax number and email address:
Telfax: 506-222-4622 (dial international first)
Email: info@hotelplazamorazon.com

Costa Rica Morazon is the closest alternative to the Del Rey. They are guest friendly and have inexpensive rooms with no guest fee.

Some other notes on the Morazon:
Small bathrooms, room for one and no countertop
Better airconditioning than Presidente
Much more dresser space than Presidente
They didn't allow more me to bring up more than one lady at a time
Sometimes you'll need to sign a guest form, other times they'll just take your companion's ID

Ace00 told me
"Some members have reported problems getting the Morazon to honor reservations if gamblers show up and need rooms. Same problem at their sister hotel the Royal Dutch Hotel and Casino. One regular with a reservation was turned away last Friday night at the Royal Dutch."

Anyone looking for a deal at the Morazan, call Alonso @ 011-506-222-4622, between the hours of 7AM - 2PM Costa Rica time and tell him "soprano" sent. You must call and DO NOT e-mail. You will be taken care of quite well. Also, his brother Miguel can pick you up at the airport. Both Alonso and Miguel speak fluent English as they both lived in New Jersey for a while.

I have just recently got back from CR and stayed at my prefer monger hotel, the Morazan. Apparently they had a new policy involving getting cash from the ATM. When I tried to get money from the ATM I was now told that I need to show them my passport. I ran back up to my room and got my passport to show it to the cashier. There was a manager working next to the cashier and he took my passport to make a copy of it. I got curious as to why they need to make a copy of my passport and was told that they needed for security reason (?).

I also then thought to myself..I can't let you make a copy of my passport and it is also because of a security reason. I don't want some dishonest employee run around with my personal information on the passport so someone can make a duplicate of it. I expressed my disapproval of this new policy to the manager and demand my passport, the copy, and my ATM receipt back and did not get any money from them. I went to hotel delrey and used their ATM without having to show the passport..just write the number down on the receipt is suffice.

Today, upon checking my bank statement..there is a debit in my account for the amount that I had withdrawn from the Morazan ATM eventhough I did not get the money. So, MORAZAN Management...if you are reading this message. I will be returning soon and will discuss this matter of refunding my money. I have been staying at the Morazan for several years now and will continue to stay there as long as I am treated well as a guest.

I have been staying at the Morazan for years and have never had any problems. Certain procedures are in place to protect the consumer, especially when using an atm card for a cash advance. The atm machine at the Morazan does not dispense cash. You must get it from the cash booth in the casino, thus the reason for verification of ID, via your passport. This is for your protection. Many of the hotels ask for a copy of your passport immediately upon check in, including the Morazan, DelRey and Presidente. Do you not trust these front desk persons either ? I expect that your credit card company will credit back your account after you explain the situation. You did state that you completed the transaction on the atm machine, then declined the money from the cashier.Obviously, this is where the problem occured. I highly doubt anyone at the Morazan tried to rip you off.
Being that you introduced the DelRey into this thread, are you aware that the DelRey has shorted gamblers on there payouts on a consistent basis at the tables ? Also, just recently, the cashier tried to pass a counterfeit $100. bill to a customer at the Delrey. Now if that isn't shady, I do not know what is, considering they scrutinize every bill they take into the cage ??
So my friend, your problem is not with the Morazan, but simply your error by completing the transaction at the atm, and then declining your cash from the booth.

Are ther any premium rooms at the Morazon?

By Soprano on Thursday, November 20, 2003 - 03:57 pm:  Edit

Room # 507 is the largest and # 505 the second largest. 501-504 all Jr. Suites. You can't go wrong with any of them. Say hi to Alonso and the boys for me.

By Pendejo on Thursday, December 18, 2003 - 10:30 am:  Edit

Anyone have an idea what the current prices are here? Stayed at the Presidente last month, and am possibly heading back next month. What are the rates for standard rooms vs. junior suites etc? And most importantly, do they allow you to bring multiple guests up at a time (unlike Presidente, which limits you to 1 guest at a time)?

By Soprano on Monday, December 22, 2003 - 06:47 pm:  Edit

Read my post of July 16. Just follow my directions. Morazan will allow multiple guests up to room.

*Spam* still trying to get kickback for making referrals. There no need to mentioned anybody's name. Just call the hotel and make reservation.

By Soprano on Tuesday, December 23, 2003 - 09:33 pm:  Edit

Sorry Dino, not "spam". Just trying to help someone out. Your allegations of myself making commissions are false and unproven, unlike your buddies on that "other site" with there so called, "sponsors". You seemed like a nice guy when I met you ever so briefly. Please give it a rest already. Thank you and have a good holiday.

By dfenderone7 on Tuesday, December 23, 2003 - 10:09 pm:  Edit

I am a nice guy but I don't like people harrassing me or my friends and telling me that it is my fault when it is not. I will remain civil until I'm push into a corner.

By Soprano on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 - 08:23 am:  Edit

Dino..

Nobody has harrassed you or pushed you into a corner ??

Please, let's not bring the trash talk to this highly regarded and respectable web site.

Again I ask you to give it a rest and I sincerely wish you the best for a Happy Holiday.

By dfenderone7 on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 - 11:06 am:  Edit

Soprano, happy holidays to you also. I also enjoyed this site very much and have made many good friends traveling to CR and Rio. These guys who know me and have met me know that I don't go around talking trash but only provide valuable and unbias information to those who asked. You have quite a bad reputation with other Costa Rica adult sites, and I will not bring it up and respect your wish to move on exchanging information on the Hotel Morazan in a truthful manner.

By dfenderone7 on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 - 11:31 am:  Edit

I have just recently spent seven days at the Morazan during Thanksgiving and still enjoy staying. Since I'm a regular guest there several times a year they were able to give me a $35/night rate. The front desk staff knows me well and I usually tip them a few colones so that charges for the safe and the chica fees are waived. Just like any other hotels if you are nice to the hotel staff they will take care of you. Any of you here can do the same to get the fees waived. As a new guest to the hotel your best rate that you can get is probably $39/night, which is still good and it does not include breakfast.

Alonzo, a long time front desk employee, has been transfer to the night shift. They have just hired 3 more front desk staffs who are in training and so a lot of mistake has been made like lost reservations and overbooking. I've made 4 reservations for friends and fellow board members but when I checked in..my reservation is there but the other four reservations were lost. I had to make another reservations before my friends arrive. I was able to make two reservations at the Morazan and two at the Presidente instead.

I still enjoy staying at the Morazan because of the convenient and the budget price. I'm just hoping that the next time my reservation would not get lost. But it is no big deal as I have hotel President as my back up.

By The_real_man on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 - 02:45 pm:  Edit

I have to confirm the report that dfenderone7 just posted. Unlike OTHER posts I have seen, his was an unbiased objective review. Like him, I have always been able to get a good rate at the Morazon without having to drop anyone's name. It is a good budget option, but the place is not perfect. In fact, it automatically raises my suspicions when someone posts multiple glowing reviews about a place without a hint of any negatives and then asks people to go to that place and tell them that HE sent them. Why can't the hotel just provide a fair rate to everyone? (They do) Why does he need to get any credit for it? Hmmmm, one has to wonder....

I just got off the phone with Morazon hotel, last minute trip like all my trips, 1-2 days to cramp all the arrangements. After dealing with Del Rey and Presidente with lots of waiting and we cannot do this or that over the phone, Guess who answers the phone at Morazon, the famous ALONSO. As soon as he introduced himself it clicked. "Hi Alonso, my friend Soprano says hello..." One minute later I was done.
I will let you guys know how it goes, but for now am BOOKED! Thanks Soprano.

Folks,

I’m going to be staying at the Morazon hotel for the first time mid Feb to March 1. Has anyone picked up any working ladies in the casino, lobby, etc. of the Morazon hotel. It seems like a lady friendly hotel. Obviously, Del Ray is a short distance away but I was wondering.

Also, how is the pool?

By Valterreekian on Monday, January 31, 2005 - 08:56 am:  Edit

Hey Hidalgo. I have snared a few in my times there at the Tropical. Yes they are lady friendly, for a fee. The choice of girls is not as good as the BM, but they price is generally less. You could also go to the Key Largo next door (only open at night) and take a gal from there. It is possible that some of the BM girls orbit through there as well, but if they do, they will probably try for $100 for an hour there as well. DON'T PAY IT. Keep looking and working and you will get the price down.

By Hidalgo on Tuesday, February 01, 2005 - 07:15 pm:  Edit

Valterreekian,

Thanks for the advice. I figured a casino in SJO had to have some lady luck. Any advice about where to go for early activity. It sounds like from noon to dawn you have many options but I get up early and like to keep busy all day. In Tijuana there are ladies out all hours. Am I asking to much?

BTW any word on the pool?

Hidalgo

The Pool?

There are girls at the DR 24 hours though I would say that unless you get a hottie that pulled an all nighter and is downstairs for her morning coffee, the selection is fairly slim most days. Just be patient, though as talent flows in and out all the time. Some of my better sessions came from gals at the DR in the daytime.
