A gringo hotel, the Park is notorious as the home of the International Blow-job Competition in the late 70s. Even that historic event pales beside the current weekend show, the hottest entertainment in town. On weekends, 6-12 naked, oil-slicked girls wriggle up and squirm down the bar, lie back and go down on each other, then grab big toys and give them a work-out that would make Consumer Reports proud. Customers get plastic bottles of baby oil to squirt on the dancers. Half of the ¢5,000 donation goes to the girls. The showgirls and other hookers are available. You can buy condoms at the front desk. The rooms were remodeled recently, and some even have cable TV. There is no "guest fee" for bringing a girl from the bar to your room. On Friday nights there is often a 2-1 ratio of hookers to men. Many will give a blow-job without a condom. New talent strolls in the door all the time, especially as high season approaches, so the Park is a good base of operations.

The Tuesday night promotion is still going on at the Park. Every time you buy a drink you get a raffle ticket and once an hour they have a drawing. If you win, you can pick the girl of your choice and take her to a room. The hotel pays the girl and provides a free room. Most guys tip (or upgrade to full service).

Here's a little more information about the Park Hotel.

The hotel is American owned and the clientele is almost 100% gringo. The owner, Bill Bullock, is a nice guy but a little crazy when sober. When he's been drinking, he's a lot crazy. But he's a good source of information and he treats his customers well.

The hotel is located on Ave. 4, two blocks south of the pedestrian mall on Ave. Central. The easiest way to find it if you're walking is to head west on Ave. 2 from Hotel Costa Rica (Gran Hotel/National Theater) until you pass Parque Central, about three blocks. You can easily identify this park from the large concrete gazebo in the center. Also, there is a large cathedral on theeast side of the park. At the park, go south (left) one block to Ave. 4. The hotel is on the north (right) side of the street, a half-block past the park (to the west).

Several people have commented that this is a "bad" area, but in my opinion it's perfectly safe until late evening so long as you stay on the main sidewalks. You'll see plenty of pedestrian traffic and street vendors until at least 10 or 11 pm. Don't walk through the park itself at night, stay on the street. As always, it's safer to walk in a group, but I walk this area at night frequently by myself. Don't walk any further west or south than the hotel at night.

As for the hotel itself, the rooms are run down and a bit noisy, but they are clean, have private baths with hot water, and most important, they are safe. Room rates are about $40 per night, with a discounted weekly rate of about $30. Short term rooms are available for about $10.

You can certainly find better rooms at other hotels for this price, but the Park does have advantages. First, there is no charge for guests. Secondly, you can meet plenty of girls in the bar without leaving the hotel, but are welcome to bring girls from outside. Also, the bar is a hangout for a lot of Gringos and it's easy to meet people there. Lastly, it's safe and English is spoken.

There are some really ugly girls there (for my taste), but there are some really pretty ones too. Sometimes the choice is great. At other times, there are only a couple of girls working and they are usually the ugly ones. The girls are all independent so they come and go as they please. The hotel checks cedulas and health cards on all the girls, so you don't get any strays walking in off the street. I've never heard of anyone having problems with the girls there, wich is a big plus.

Since they're independent, the girls also set their own prices, but they are fairly consistent. All the girls will quote 10,000 colones for short time. Price and services are negotiable, but unless otherwise agreed you should assume that short-time will include both oral and regular sex, with condom, for not longer than one hour or until you have one orgasm, whichever comes first.

Many guys tell me they never pay more than 5,000 or 6,000 colones there. I don't like to bargain prices because it seems to take something away from the experience for me so I usually pay 7,000 (sometimes 8,000 and occasionally 10,000). Naturally, once a girl gets to know you (and if she likes you) the service gets better. Usually, for 7,000 or 8,000 colones I spend a couple of hours or longer with the girls, get great sex, massage, etc., but the girls all know me. I'm fairly picky about my women. Of the 15 or 20 girls who work at the Park, there are only a handful I will have sex with. She must be sexually atteactive to me and must be orgasmic. I really enjoy turning the girl on. For me it's part of the foreplay that leads to my own excitement, so I usually bring the girl to orgasm first, then let her go to work on me. If a girl can't orgasm, I won't have sex with her again. Many of the other girls are friends though and some guys prefer them. They just aren't my type.

Almost all the girls there are Ticas and most have families they are supporting. Only a few can stay overnight unless they make advance arrangements for babysitters. I don't know what they would charge for overnight, but would estimate 15,000 colones if they are available at all.

All in all, the Park may not become your favorite place in San Jose but it's definitely worth checking out and most people like it. One of the biggest problems short-term visitors have in general, not only at the Park, is that they form quick impressions based on one or two short visits to a place. Frequently, first impressions are misleading.

My best advice to everyone who visits here is to relax, be patient, enjoy yourself, don't be too quick to make judgemnts, and start getting to know the people, the places, and the language. It's a great country and you should enjoy yourself. If you are only visiting for cheap sex, you may want to consider going someplace else. It's available here, but that isn't really the attraction for most people.

All of the information posted here is on the mark. Bill is very friendly and presents himself well if not a bit crazy. Although the neighborhood is a dangerous at night this place is an oasis of security.

Many of the women are quite average, however there are quite a few that are pretty and warm. The show is certainly a blast.

Also note that the hotel is equipped with saftey desposit boxes. The boxes themselves require a box key and the managers key to open. Bill is the only one with the manager key. However he is a ugly person (although obliging) to wake at 5am because you have to clear out your box before going to the airport.

Park Hotel Update.

I just spent 3 weeks in Costa Rica, about 7 days total in San Jose. I really have to give the day shift girls there at the Park a big thumbs up. There are only a few working there that I would consider hot I.E. Aleda, Monica, Ana but almost all give excellent GF sessions especially if you get to know them a little bit. Another good thing here is that the girls aren't too possesive (though they will respect each others teritory). Here almost a year later I must echo the statements above. The Park Hotel is wilder at night especially on Friday nights and Saturday nights. Daytime can be boring but Anna is usually there to liven it up and provide a beautiful atmosphere. It does rule on the weekends.

I saw Bill at Bar New York in April 2008. The place on the beach, formerly Gabi's (Gaby's?) bar that he stole from the Canadian guy had been closed because it was too close to the waterline according to some crazy Costa Rican law (50 yards from the high tide line is public property and you cannot build on it, or something like that).

He was with an about 40 year old Tica with long, wavy hair that I had seen around before. I was told that he was living with her in a suburb of San Jose and that he was in San Jose to set up collecting Social Security, but that's all hearsay, I pass it on solely because about 1/5 of the time it's the truth. I also know (on better information that I trust, but I can't divulge) that he was staying at Hotel Castillo with ex-doorman Danilo for a while, but that he and Danilo had some kind of falling out, or maybe it was that Bill and the management had some kind of falling out, but a falling out occurred, and Bill left.

But Bill was alive and kicking in San Jose at least as of Spring 2008.

I don't remember who was who, but I assume from his description above as a prick that Bill was the older one of the two owners and the one (as it turns out) I had a problem with.

I remember the girls would get naked on the bar, we would be encouraged to spread baby oil on them and so forth, and we could take pictures. Bill announced though he did not want any pictures taken of him. One day, towards the end of the show I snapped a shot just as unbeknownst to me Bill ran out of the back room and appeared next to the bar. He used to advertise the show for, say, 8pm, shut the doors around 8:30, but not start the show until around 10, so that the captive audience would buy more drinks.

That is the total fucking truth. He thought he was some slick business man, keeping his captive audience pissed off for two hours buying drinks waiting for the show. And it did work one time for each of us. And after that, everyone was like, they're about to close the doors for the show, better get out of here before we're charged 10,000 and then locked in here for 2 hours before the show begins. Great business man.

I get really pissed off sometimes thinking how that bastard destroyed a fucking landmark like the Coliseum or the Parthenon or, well, you know what I mean.
