Sad to say but I can no longer recommend VIPS #2, Molino Rojo. Over the past several weeks they have had a complete change of personnel and the entire attitude has changed. Prices have gone up from 4,500 to 5,500 colones and the service has been indifferent at best. The last two times I visited, the new woman running the counter in the back has started calling out time to the girls about 15 minutes into the session, which has an effect like throwing cold water on me. There have been other minor annoyances as well and in general I've been very dissatisfied with my recent visits. I don't plan to return anytime soon.

Sorry to hear about Molino Rojo. I was only able to go once during my 4 day stay in San Jose in November 99. I was able to pass myself off as Mexican so I ending up taking a nica named Tania back to my hotel for 7000 colones. I believe the exchange rate at that time was about 230 colones to the dollar.

Yes, it is definately open on sundays.
Last time I was in CR I remember the exchange rate being about 320, which was not too long ago. The bar actually fines the girl 5500 for leaving. So, any offer from her will always have that amount already priced in...

I personlly like this place.. I felt that the waiters were both entertaining and friendly. I never exerienced any sort of rush..

Can you all name every establishment open on Sundays. This would be useful info since everything is pretty much dead on a Sunday afternoon/evening except for the Blue Marlin.

Also there is a place on Calle 13 near ave 12 ...Sal de Belleza unisex..The last time that I checked, (about a year ago) they were open on Sundays. Like many of the Tico operations they will try to charge first time gringos a premium price.You don`t have to pay it.
BARGAIN WITH THEM . They don`t want to lose you as a customer over a few colonnes.

I keep coming back to this place. There is one waiter who is really cool. He is the one who is obviously the most enthusiastic (or shows any enthusiasm at all). Last time he was teasing me about my appetite for women..

I usually stop by for about 2 hours and do 2 or 3 trips to the room. The one cool waiter always recognizes me, and if not for him, this place would be boring.

I rarely ever see any gringos in there, and every once in a while one pokes their head in and leaves. The places really is not as intimidating as it looks, although I doubt anyone that works there knows any english.

Last time I noticed that the talent has improved. They currently have a good variety, which includes at least 2 colombianas. And a total of about 5 blonds, which was a surprise since I'm used to seeing alot of dark Dominicanas
and the rest ticas.

Although I still love hanging at the BM, this places is good as an appetizer...

Been there twice on a trip close to a year ago. I found a skinny one each time, both friendly enough, about 4500 back then (If memory serves).

Was the only Gringo in the joint both times, but certainly didn't feel unwelcome.

I’m headed back to San Jose this summer and I’ll definitely check this place out again. I went in my last trip in 8/01 and walked right back out. There were only 1 or 2 girls there and both were pretty ugly, but I was there pretty early too.

I used to travel to San Jose for business 2-3 times a year but that ended about a year ago and I miss it a lot.

You really have to check the local clubs out on a regular basis because the quantity and quality of talent can vary from week to week.

Most everyone seems to discuss molino rojo #2. Molino rojo #1 is actualy closer to the gringo hotels and I would consider it a safe walk until about 10 pm. No GFE here, but full service sex for about $18. Some really hot women too. The beer is cold and about half the del rey price.
Incidenty, the building right next store is a flat out whore house, decent chicas, $15 full service. It's not apparent from the outside, but just walk in and down the hall you'll come across a sort of living with a bunch of chicas sitting on couchs in thier underwear. Finally, I put the $130 on the desk in front of the cop who looked like he was in charge of these retards and walked out...

I looked back as I was reaching the street at the cop at the door and said "ya?", he nodded and my friend and I were on our way home.

I'm sorry you had such a crappy experience there. I first went to Molino Rojo in about 1999, and it was a good time. Cheap, and no gringos around. I was kind of an oddity, but treated ok, had no problems.

Things have changed though. I don't go here anymore, both because inside you're regarded as a mark if you're a gringo, and even outside where it used to be safe, it's really not any more late at night. And look, I'm 6'3" and from New York, and I'm saying, it's not a safe place at night.

If you go here, there are a horde of girls, whatever you like, tall, short, blonde, brunette, skinny, really skinny, and for something like 8 or 10 thousand for 20 minutes or so, but you need to be careful.

You've been warned, but if you want, directions to this place: from the west side of Parque Central (that's if you walk out of the KFC on Avenida 2, cross the big avenue, and keep heading south) walk south 4, 5 blocks, and it'll be on the left corner of an intersection, looking like the picture at the top of this thread (it's a different color now). All the bars as you're walking south are whorehouses, but in most of these you need to speak spanish well (except for Miss Caribe which you'll pass on the right which has some gringos for clients; also, avoid the one on the right just past Parque Central called Flamencos or Flamingos because it's the kind of place where a girl drinks costs $12 or $14).

It was a crazy neighborhood, with a lot of fun dive bars before, but now it's gotten a little too crazy for my blood, but if you're up for it, there it is.

I stopped in Molino Rojo a couple of Saturdays ago at 11pm after my visit to Arcadas. Molino Rojo is on the southeast corner of Avenida 10 and Calle 2, Google Map coordinates are 9.92968,-84.080239. Cover was 1.5k colones for a beer.

I had been in here before, but didn't recognize it. I'm pretty sure they changed the layout since the prior posts. The bar consists of a large room with a fairly large stage in the center on the right. I was there for about an hour, but no one ever danced.

Talent was dismal. There were 15 or so women, most ugly with 1 or 2 that were ok looking. I spoke with one that quoted me 12.5k for 30 minutes. I decided it wasn't worth it. She was annoyed that I asked but didn't take her.

I would probably avoid Molino Rojo unless you're already in the area visiting Arcadas. It's inexpensive to get in and you might get lucky and find someone nice, but probably not.
