There are a couple of moderately priced hotels that are each about a block from Help that seem to be very popular. Most of the tourist hotels are located in Copacabana.
Hotel Debret is one. It is on the beach so most of the rooms have an ocean view. Here is link to them at http://www.riodejaneiroguide.com/hotel/debret.htm
The second place is called the Rio Rioss Hotel. The rooms are slightly nicer than the Debret but since it is a block off the beach there is no ocean view. It's address is Rua Aires Saldanha, 48. Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. Tel - (0055)(21) 522-1142. It sounds like most of the guys that I have talked to stay here.
Both of these places don't mind if you bring girls to your room (many of the nicer hotels won't allow it at all). If you only paid for a single room, they will charge you if you take a girl up to your room.
Here is a link for general information on Rio http://ipanema.com/. This site also has lots of information on various hotels in Rio as well as an online hotel booking service.
I actually stayed at an apartment when I was in Rio. You can book them thru this site http://www.EZ-RioRentals.com/. The apartments were located 2 blocks from Help/the beach. A room was $40 a night so it is little cheaper than the 2 hotels that I mentioned above. The only thing that I didn't like was that there wasn't a telephone but you can rent cell phones.

YoungTom,
I remember you telling me that you got a rate of $65 thru ipanema.com for the Rio Roiss. I was looking at the web site and it was posted as $75 at 15% tax. Was there some trick to negotaiating the lower rate ?
Also the Debret was cheaper and right on the beach. They had small suites with beach views at $75. I hear it is a little more "beat up". Has anyone stayed at both and have an opinion ?
I believe both of these have guest fees of $10 or so. Any comments ?

I have stayed at both Rio Roiss and the Debret. Contrary to others, I actually found the Debret to be a little nicer. Problem was, I had a little trouble bringing a garota up duiring the daytime there. Of course, things worked out. Both hotels have english speaking desk clerks. For the best rates call and ask for a discount for staying multiple nights or business. Believe me, they will understand. The Debret required a credit card as guarantee. Not sure about Rio Roiss.

Wilco,
Good to see you here. I noticed excat on the Peru thread the other day. The board seems to be picking up some valuable south of Mexico experience.
I was reading a thread on TSM which discussed the merits of apartments vs. hotel rooms. Although the thread was light, the guys seemed to be in favor of the apartments. Reasoning was:
. They cost a little less
. You have a fridge and stuff, so you don't have to eat out all the time.
. No guest fee.
I have noticed that you seem to favor the hotels. Any reasons why ?
TIA,
Gitano

I prefer the hotels for a couple reasons. None of the single apts have telephones and most don't have cable. I also prefer the generaly nicer atmosphere, and I believe the ladies do as well. For me, it's just worth the additional expenditure. For those who do choose apts, one can rent a celular phone for pretty cheap. I think Kenn can hook you up with these and quite possibly a very nice apt as well. Can't remember his site off the top of my head, but you can find it on YMMV. He's really a great guy. RPN will be staying at one of his apts soon and be able to give us the low down.

I have stayed at the Debret. I usually take a beachfront suite. They charge about 70Usd a night for this. I'll be going on the 23rd of this month again and am going to try the Martinique Hotel. It is one block further south from the Debret and is located 1/2 block from the beach. The best thing about this place is the prices. They quote $22Usd for a room with all amenities except a tv or $34Usd with all amenities. I got this info from ipanema.com.

Gitano,
When I got my $65 (+ tax)rate at the Rio Roiss via ipanema.com, I just asked them for the double occupancy rate. I honestly don't know if you get any better rate going thru them than if you do it yourself. There generally always seems to be someone who speaks excellent English at the reception desk (especially in the day time).
Since I got the double occupancy, I was never charged for taking a girl to my room; I believe there is a $10 charge if you book it single occupany. They will get identification from a girl when you take her to your room.
I think that rates can vary fairly drastically between prime time - December thru Carnival (March) & the rest of the year.

Kenn is currently getting most of his apartments thru Marina. Her telephone/Fax # is 005521-201-6354. Her cell phone # is 021-9177-2623. Her email is 21-91772623@atlnet.com.br. She speaks good English. Her email is forwarded to her cellphone so she should respond fairly fast if you send her email.

Actually there are lots of hotels in Copacabana. Many won't let you take women to your room. Here is a map that shows you where a bunch of the hotels in Copa are http://www.EZ-RioRentals.com/maps/Copacabana.gif
The Rio Roiss is located 1 block from the beach behind the Rio Othon Place (#6 on the map). Apparently the Marriott also does not care if you take women to your room.

YoungTom posted Rio Roiss number in previous post.
Here is Hotel Debret number form their web site www.debret.com, Phone: 55-21-522-0132.
From what I understand, most rooms at Debret have ocean view, Rio Roiss only corner rooms with number finishing with a 2 like 702 or 802 have a view.
I also understand you can negotiate maybe $10 off over the phone for a long stay.
Can someone compare these two hotels against U.S.
ones as every sire taste in comfort varies.
Is Debret not as good as Roiss but would compare to a Best Western in the U.S. or a Holiday Inn.
Looks like I am finally getting my butt overseas next Nov to join Gitano in the pursuit of sexual happiness.

Athos - I look forward to meeting you in Rio. I too will be in Rio the same week as Gitano so we all should have a great time together.
I've stayed in the Rio Roiss once. Believe it or not, they only have 3 rooms per floor. I stayed in 1003 and you can't see the beach from there; it is totally blocked by the Rio Orthon Palace. Complementary breakfast is included at the Rio Roiss; the restaraunt is located on the top floor of the Roiss and there is a great view from there. I really enjoyed the selection of food at the breakfast as well.
I'd say the Roiss is comparable to the Best Western or Holiday Inn.
Attention Wilco - we need your help here!!!
I believe that Wilco has stayed at both the Roiss & the Debert and was comfortable with the both places. I believe his only misgiving with the Debert was that sometimes they have a problem with bringing women to the room. Wilco, can you elaborate/confirm/advise?

Hi
Last 8 trips to Rio - stayed at the Hotel Debret - never booked a beach view room - because I am ON the beach, I dont want to just look at the beach.
Pros - English speaking staff - good breakfast included - friendly - beach front - near Mea Pateca Cafe & cafe outside HELP - easy to get a taxi to the Termas - safe deposit in room.
Can take garotas to the rooms - but they prefer this at night - charge for garota for room & breakfast. Garotas has to register & leave her ID card & you have to approve it being released - this is security.
Looked at Apartments - similar prices or more as the Debret inner rooms - but DO NOT have safe deposit boxes in room or eg in managers office - to me a safe deposit box is IMPORTANT - bad experience in Santiago (Chile), when I nearly lost my US Passport - Do not want to carry Passport/Cash/CreditCards/TravellersChecks etc with me all the time.
Does anyone know, apartments with safe deposit boxes.
Also heard about HELP garotas, stealing and leaving the apartment while you are sleep - garota cannot get her ID from Debret Front Desk, with out your OK.
Going to Bangkok in Sept & will hopefully return to RIO in Nov

Some of the apartments that you can get thru Kenn or Bobby http://www.blameitonrio4travel.com/main.html do in fact have safes. In fact, I rented the one listed as 812A under 1 bedroom condo via Kenn & it had a safe.
What do they charge at the Debret if you bring a girl to the room?
I've stayed at the Rio Roiss. I paid for double occupancy so I wasn't charged whenever I brought a girl to the room. I do believe that the Roiss charges you to take a girl to your room if you're only paying for a single occupancy room.
By Ceylon on Tuesday, July 03, 2001 - 07:31 pm: Edit |
Hi YoungTom
Thanks for the info re apartments with safes - will check them out.
Feb 01 - Debret charged Reals 40 for the Garota 's who stayed overnight. Breakfast was Reals 20 extra.
Good idea - maybe, next time will pay for a double room - but I prefer to go to a Termas - have fun with 2 or 3 garotas - & go back and sleep.
Also was informed that Hotel Toledo (one block from Av Atlantica) - was a good "girl" friendly hotel - anyone stayed there ?

Both Gitano and I got same quote for standard double room at $65 + tax at hotel Rio Ross. Reservation done via Ipanema.com.
The only strange thing is they never asked for credit card number, just an email saying we have reservation and payable on arrival.

I stay at the Marina Palace in Leblon. They will let you take a girl up to your room as long as she's seen to be leaving before dawn.or earlier. Since i tend to ring up escorts or go to the termas that is not a problem. i stayed at the debret but bailed out after 2 nights. when i'm having fun i like my luxury. the debret is great for location in copa but let's face it guys the scene in copacabana and the area itself is getting worse by the day. the moteis are great fun and good deals can be had. i stayed at the sinless 2 nights in a medieval luxury suite @ R$ 200 per night.

We're staying at the Rio Roiss, am very happy with location, half a block from Help, half a block from Meia Petaca, internet cafe, groceries, farmacia at the corner, plenty of restaurants. Very garota friendly, no hassle. Room in good condition with very clean bathroom, only drawback is the poor lighting if interested in doing some reading.

Athos,
Do you know if the cambio across the street from Tudo facil internet cafe is open on Saturdays? Also, though the distance is short, how are you finding the walk back to the Rio Roiss from Help in the early morning hours?
By Youngtom on Wednesday, November 07, 2001 - 06:36 am: Edit |
Stayawayjoe -
That cambio is indeed open on Saturdays. My flight arrived around 11:20am last Saturday & after checking into the Rio Roiss, we immmediately headed for the cambio & got some reais. I do believe that it does close a bit earlier on Saturday than during the week.
I haven't been mugged YET so it has been a nice walk back from Help late night. More & more people are taking cabs these days.

I was very happy at the Rio Roiss, 1/2 a block from Meia Pataca and 1/2 a block from Help.
Service was excellent, made room during breakfast or during your first exit.
Changed sheet every day.
Got 170R per day by ordering online. Excellent choice for 1 week stay. Maybe would consider apartments for longer stay.
Cable tv with cnn and espn international, french tv5, bbc, rai, mtv.
No radio is minor negative.
Mattress was ok as i was able to sleep but my back is hurting from too much missionary position.
Ordering room service for breakfast is only 2R.
Fridge drinks are cheap too in the 2R range for beers and coke.
Bathroom is very clean with tile floor, very spacy for showers with garotas. Kissing garota in showers is one of my favorite monent.

I will be in Rio in the near future. Would like to know what the pro's and con's are of Rio Roiss vs. Arpoador Inn, especially from those of you who have stayed at the latter.
Does Arpoador charge for guests like at the Rio Roiss? (If so, how much... also how much at Rio Roiss for guests?) What about traveling to and from Cocacabana from Arpoador Inn? (Do you find not being on top of the action in Cocacabana a hassle when staying at Arpoador Inn?) Rates at both places? Noise, size of rooms, breakfasts?
Anything else you'd like to add?
If anyone also would like to meet up, please write back as well. I will be in Rio from 11/23 until 12/8.
Muito obrigado,

Senor Dude
Can only speak for Rio Roiss. 170R for double room if ordered online, try ipanema.com.
Double room allows as many guests as you like. Single room, there is a charge per guest.
Noise is minimal and was able to sleep comfortably. Room is normal size, fridge with drinks, clean bathroom with tiles showers great for 2 persons. Breakfast is very good, room service is 2R. Only drawback, no radio. Cable TV has cnn, espn international, bbc, french tv5, rai, brazilian mtv. Also no view. Safety box for minimum charge. They change the sheets every day and vacuum regularly. Excellent room service as it is usually done as soon as you're away for breakfast or first errand of the day.

Arpoador is located between Copacabana & Ipanema. This is a short walk during the daytime (although you should cab it late night). I don't know anything about their rates or policies regarding taking women to your room. Personally, I like the beach better in Ipanema. The women there are also more likely to speak English than in Copacabana.
By rock3times on Monday, November 19, 2001 - 03:03 pm: Edit |
Arpoardor Inn is one of the cheapest
I only experience with the bottom price , around 28.00$ a day
I do not know about about guest policy since I spend most of the time in the termas. I usually go home at 5.00am after a whole day of orgasmic trips from termas to termas from 100pm to 500am next day. a quick nap from 500am to 100pm and I am ready for action again. Why bother with expenses in the hotels if you spend most of time in the termas?
Room in Arpoardor is a dive in comparison to Rio Roiss but 1/2 cheaper. I also like Debret a lot . A bit more expensive around 45$ a day but you have a fabulous view looking down to the Copacabana Beach. Rioss is on a back street and completely hidden from the beach scenes.
May be the only thing good about Arpoardor is its private(almost private)beachfront since it is located in a dead end street. The beach is called Arpoardor Beach and is tiny but I like the scenes since it is quieter than Copa.
From Arpoardor you can walk to either Ipanema and Copa areas.
Good hunting

Rio Othon Palace, in Ave. Atlantica, is among the top five properties in Copacabana. It goes without saying that it is expensive. Its a Brazilian Chain Othon It's website http://www.hoteis-othon.com.br/ingl/palace/rio/open.htm will give you an idea of what to expect.
You can get towels for the beach off the lobby. It is reommended that you shower and/or wash up by entering from the side and avoid messing up the nice big lobby. Use this to your advantage in bringing a garota to your room. Do excercise caution on petty thefts related to puntering/mongering since the guest is not registered.
Four nights, five days - a few guests, two overnights - I did not have anyone question me. However, I may have been lucky and maybe I did not fit a profile of a person bringing in a working girl. During the day, I made it a point to take my guest to the pool and bar on top. In the evening, once, I took this girl right to the top floor bar, before deciding whether she'd be a short-time or an overnight. The view, my chivalery, mentioning how great the buffet breakfast was before asking her would R150+taxi money OK ? She looked at me, paused, laughed, and winked.

Wow, I didn't realise that there was a pool up there on the top of the Orthon Palace;very nice. I've heard that it is a very nice hotel. I've spent alot of time looking at the back side of that building from my window in the Rio Roiss.
A Help girl told me that the Orthon Palace doesn't generally allow girls in but it sounds like you had great success getting the guests in.

Well here is my take on the hotel Rio Roiss. I liked it. Double room cost 170R with breakfast included. Room service add an extra 2R for 2 people. Fridge drinks were cheap 2R. Bedroom was fairly big, bed was big double bed with OK mattress. The bathroom was very clean with big shower stall in marble so plenty of room to shower with garota. They changed sheet every day and vacuumed regularly. Room views were mediocre or inexistent unless you get the more expensive room. Noise was not a factor, I was able to sleep well. Apartments are definitely cheaper. Here are other mentioned advantages of hotel; safety box (that's a big one for me); cable tv; telephone fairly cheap too, local calls were small charges, 10 min call to Ubureba outside Rio cost 30R; garota has to fill sheet to go upstairs and leave her work ID card. Staff was very friendly and professional, spoke some English. Breakfast was good but not exciting. One downside was no radio so bring your own radio or CD player. Cable TV has brazilian mtv but I hated having to surf the channels for some garotas. BTW it is 110V over there like in the States.

question? I would like to stay at a 4 or 5 star hotel in rio. if i register for double occupancy will there be any trouble? I plan on bringing up working girls as well as non working girls.
By Athos on Monday, December 24, 2001 - 12:52 am: Edit |
Depends which hotel you stay at. The more expensive hotel like 4 or 5 star do not allow garotas to come in, but some guy posted he was able to.
Hotel Debret and Hotel Rio Roiss seem to be the hotel of choice for hombres. Double occupancy means you can bring as many ladies as you like, if you pay single then you pay for each garota.
Some guy told me he was staying at the new Marriot and was able to bring ladies home.
By Citydude on Monday, December 24, 2001 - 01:19 am: Edit |
Athos: That's me who talked about Marriot and Othon ........
Tjjohnny: What 4 or 5 star ? One has to be specific on the brand/chain.
The deal w.r.t to my situaton is this: In a given year, I do so many stays at these chains that they have to honor their elite - and I am discrete in bringing my guests i.e. No micro-mini with plunging neckline with boobs hanging out and lipstick which glo-in-the-dark.
By Athos on Monday, December 24, 2001 - 12:29 pm: Edit |
CityDude
I did talk to an American during my stay in Rio who was bringing garotas to the new Marriot. So that's two confirmations for the Marriot. Did you get charged for every garota as it is the understanding for expensive hotels?
By Citydude on Tuesday, December 25, 2001 - 05:53 am: Edit |
Athos: I do not remember whether I mentioned it before, anyway, I always book double when on the road - specially in S.Am, it gives me bigger room, and larger bed - It also insures that two persons are allowed. I'm also Elite in Mariott's goldpassport.
Years ago, I took a weekend trip to Foz de Iguassu, and must have gotten the smallest room, with the smallest bed -- Heck I think Queen Mary in Long Beach,CA had bigger bunks. I got it in that hotel because my T/A said single person.

I stayed there last month and there is NO guest fee, they never charged me or 7 of my buddies when we brought girls back. I have to admit it is very expensive to stay, $250US /night. The marriott is not really a monger hotel its more of a business hotel (People in suits going to conferences & meetings). Something to keep in mind is that it can be very intimidating for the girl, she may not feel comfortale walking around the lobby with her "Help uniform" on. .
By Thumper on Wednesday, January 16, 2002 - 07:42 am: Edit |
Hey Citydude,
I have a question for you, I know you can get a girl into the Othon by entering the building thru the side doors. But how do you get them past the 5 security guards who stand DIRECTLY in front of the elevator doors? Those guards are positioned to specifically keep guys from bringing in girls, the "I am taking her to the bar on the roof" excuse doesn't fly. I have been going to Rio for 5 years and I have never met ANYONE who was able to sneak a girl in, and you were able to do it multiple times?! If this is true, you need to play PowerBall because you are the luckiest guy I have ever known. How were they dressed when you brought them into the hotel?
One a quick side note, the Othon wasn't always like this. This new security stemmed from a incident 5 years ago when some German tourist threw a garota out his window. ( whether for stealing or not performing certain functions, I don't know) Since that time, trying to get a girl into your hotel room is like Mission Impossible.

I must have had the same room. 1002?? Great price, great service. Friendly front desk. I have stayed at Caesar Park, and while the rooms furniture was a little nicer, the bath facilities were not much different. And at 5 times the price, why not stay at Roiss...
